Harry Donovan WWII Vet Mustang Fund
For years now he has been trying to get his 1967 Mustang restored. Originally he bought the Mustang for his wife (now deceased) and the car has extreme sentimental value to him.
In 1969, the 94-year-old veteran bought the Ford Mustang for his wife Marie, who drove it until she passed away in the year 2000. Harry decided to have it restored in her memory in 2009.
Harry arranged to have a local mechanic work on the vehicle and quoted a price to have it fully restored. Unfortunately, Harry ended up trusting the wrong mechanic.
After paying for the work, Harry got his car back but not only was it not restored but was missing the engine, transmission, hood, radiator and some other parts.
If you would like to read a more in-depth story about Harry and what happened to his 1967 Mustang, here is a link to an article that the IndyStar newspaper published recently.
The money raised will go to restoring his Mustang. Any donation small or large would be greatly appreciated. If there is any money leftover after restoring the car we will be donating it to a Veterans charity.
Thank you very much. This would mean the world to my Grandpa.
We made it a surprise for Harry by telling him that we were only going to see the Mustang to do a final walk around before the car was finished. When Harry arrived at The Finer Details shop, they revealed and presented him with the keys to his finished Mustang!
Here is a link to The Finer Details Facebook page so you can watch the video of the car being revealed and presented to my Grandfather.
Here is a link to additional photos and a great article by Tim Evans, who answered my family’s call when we reached out to IndyStar Call for Action and has been covering Harry’s story from the very start.
The family and Harry wanted to give a huge thank you to all of you for your support and generous donations. We could not have finished the car without you!
The full amount of the GoFundMe account went directly to The Finer Details and the only extra cost to Harry was a new set of tires.
Harry told us that now there is only one thing left that is needed for the car. A customized front license plate for his late wife who he originally bought the car for that says “For Marie.”
Again a big thanks to everyone out there for making a 96 year old veterans wish come true!
Like Tim mentioned in the article, so far the car has been mostly worked on by volunteers in their free time on the weekend and/or in the evenings. The Finer Details Shop has told us there is around 100 more hours of work left on the car which could take several more weeks or months at the current work rate. Due to the volunteers limited hours and Harry’s age, our family and Ken Mosier (Owner of The Finer Details) have decided to expedite the work. Ken Mosier and his shop have agreed to work full time to finish the project at a discount that covers only the cost of the employees’ time. We are still just a bit short in funds for parts and now labor due to wanting to accelerate the process by paying The Finer Details’ employees for their work.
If all goes according to plan, our next update will be about Harry reuniting with his completed 1967 Mustang!
