Get My Hero To The Hip

My name is Amanda, and I'm from Moncton, New Brunswick. My hero, my best friend, my love, my rock, has recently been diagnosed with Grade IV Glioblastoma Multiforme....brain cancer. This doesn't seem real. I never thought I would ever be facing something as terrifying as this...nobody does. But here I am. Here we are. Brain cancer.
A little over a month ago, my 39 year old husband was enjoying warm mornings of golf, and looking forward to the summer. Now, we are a few weeks post brain surgery, in the middle of some intense physio (to regain use of his right arm and leg, which were paralized as a result of the tumour), and looking to begin radiation and chemotherapy treatments on Monday (July 25th).
Everybody has been doing what they can. The doctors and nurses have done what they can, now we look to the oncologists to zap this thing out of existance. Our family has been amazingly supportive, and we can't say enough about all the things our friends have done for us. But as the spouse, I have felt a little helpless. There is not much I have been able to do, except be the emotional support, and partner to lean on. Well a little over 24 hours ago, I finally thought of something I can actually do for my amazing husband.
Jason has been a huge fan of The Tragically Hip for as long as I've known him. He eats, sleeps, and breathes The Hip. When it comes to what we should listen to, there is never any question...The Hip. When we got the diagnoses of cancer, Jason couldn't help himself, but remark, "At least I have the same cancer as Gord Downie!". Unbelieveable. It came to me yesterday. What if i was able to get my hero to see his hero in concert, one last time? How great would that be? What a morale lifter! It could give Jason something to look forward to in the midst of this nightmare. If anyone deserves this, it's my husband. His optimism, strength, and determination through all of this, has been so inspiring. So I put out the call on Facebook...wrote up our story, in hopes that maybe a couple hundred people would share it. I thought that if possibly the right person, with the right connections, could pull the right strings, maybe I could make this happen. The ultimate goal is to find tickets for the last show in Kingston on August 20th. The reason for this date, is because of the radiation schedule, which will be every week day, for the next six weeks. Jason would only be able to attend a Saturday show.
So there it is. My part. My gift to my husband.
The response has been completely overwhelming (in a good way!). The kindness, and unconditional generosity of people, even some complete strangers, has left me absolutely speechless. I never intended on starting a GoFundMe page, as I only wanted people to share our story. However, I have received so many requests to start an account, that I decided it might be a good idea. I am putting our goal at $1.00, so those of you who wish, can help out in the way you see fit.
I cannot express my utmost gratitude enough. The kind and comforting words have been such an encouragement. Just when you think the world is closing in, and the darkness tries to cast its ugly shadow, someone leaves an uplifting note that leaves a feeling of inspiriation and determination. We can do this. We can fight this.
