#goHolly: TT vs cystic fibrosis

Introduction by 3-time Olympian and Commonwealth Games Silver medallist William Henzell:

"I first met Holly at a tournament in 2013 but didn't realise what an inspirational story lay behind the young girl from Perth. Her dad, Carl, introduced himself and mentioned that I had helped inspire Holly to train harder at table tennis. I didn’t realise then that Holly would end up inspiring me! We watched her match which she narrowly lost against an older girl and that was followed by a flood of tears; not surprising for a 13-year-old who'd just lost a big match at the national championships!

Holly isn't one for quitting though and adversity just seems to make her try harder. She's is the number 1 ranked under 18 girl in Australia and took her first major International title in 2016 by winning the Oceania junior singles. That's an impressive feat for anyone, let alone someone who is battling a, at times, debilitating illness. Holly suffers from cystic fibrosis and has long stints in hospital to fight off lung infections. She must be persuasive though, instructing the doctors to put her IV line into her left arm so that she can still train with her right and to work her medication times around her training regime so that she can leave hospital, train and then head back to hospital for her next round of meds. In the words of her dad, “it always amazes me how she just steps up to the mark, never complains and just goes for it”.

Holly's dream is to represent Australia at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and 2020 Olympic Games, and I'd like to contribute what I can to make that dream possible. Please join me in supporting her training and competition in the lead-up to the Games.”

The money will be used for:
- overseas sparring partners for Holly
- travel to training camps and tournaments
- table tennis equiptment
