kidney for korrine
My name is Korrine Ahmann, I am a 37 year old mother of 5. I have had type 1 diabetes since I was 11 years old. 2 years ago I became pregnant with my youngest daughter. My pregnancy pushed me into end stage renal failure and required immediate dialysis, which was all very new to me. My OBGYN was pressuring me to get an abortion. She said carrying the baby to full term would either kill me or the baby or both. There was less than a 2% chance of survival. I decided my daughters life was worth the challenge and I have been thankful everyday since.
I started hemodialysis immediately for six days a week at 7 hours a day. It was twice as long as it would be for a typical dialysis patient but because of the pregnancy I needed to double the time and double the amount of days. My dialysis nurses stated they had never had a pregnant patient before and they never heard of one carring full term. The baby was born preturely at 27 weeks. She was only 3 pounds. She spent another 2 months in the nicu and for 9 months afterwards she needed to be on a breathing monitor. She has bounced back to the beautiful little girl you see in the photo. The happiest baby I've ever seen.
Me, on the other hand have not progressed so well. I am now on pd dialysis 7 days a week for 7 hour runs. I make regular trips to the ER because my body is having a very hard time keeping up with the dialysis. I am in diar need of a kidney immediately, and going into surgery at this stage means I need to be completely healthy otherwise. Not so much as a cavity.
Because of all the medical treatments I am currently going through I am not able to work so we have a single income family. My husband very badly wants to donate his kidney but being the only one working it's not an option right now.
I am asking for donations to help with my current medical treatments and cost of the transplant.
