Measha's Stolen Purse

Donation protected
To the thief who broke in to my best friend's apartment in the middle of night on Monday and stole my purse, you have helped me realize one of my worst fears. You have turned my life inside out and stolen every, single piece of identification I had. Yes, you hit the jackpot by stealing my new Apple Mac computer with my un-saved book edits and my iPhone 6S with un-iClouded photos of my babies. And it was a good idea to turn them off so that I wouldn't be able to find them using the FindMyPhoneApp.

BUT, in addition to the psychological warfare inherent in invading a stranger's space while they sleep, stealing my "Make No Noise"highlighted score by Miroslav Srnka with all my markings and notes in it? It's of zero value to you AND its loss really hurts my ability to do my job at Festspielhaus Bregenz. Such a douche move.

You likely didn't know you were stealing the LIFELINE of a world-traveler by stealing my Canadian passport, but that shouldn't matter - I now have no IDs in my possession. It TAKES identification to GET identification and no one deserves this.

I wouldn't classify myself as materialistic but the theft of my sparkly blue Kate Spade wallet is a loss, to be sure, but it had my 17-yr-old wedding band in it because I was having it repaired. Any married person will tell you how difficult it is to keep something like that safe...

But I also want to thank you. I want to thank you for not hurting me or my best friend when you unceremoniously entered the apartment and committed theft. I thank you for leaving quickly and having enough shame in your heart to know that what you were doing should be done in the shadows while you thought no one was watching. I thank you for not breaking in when my children were with me. I thank you for not touching one hair on my head and for teaching me to always make sure the doors are double locked, event though an open door is not an invitation to come in a take what isn't yours.

I pray time will heal the act of betrayal committed when I was at my most vulnerable, but I thank this criminal for giving me the opportunity to rely on the kindness of strangers by starting a CrowdFunding camping to replace my computer, my prescription glasses, my phone, my wallet, and my purse. I have no way of knowing if this will work because I've never done it before but when it was suggested to me by someone I trust, I figured "why not?" I have a family to support and a job to do.

But most of all, if you're reading this and you are the person who stole my purse or you know who did, you may not want it or be asking for it, but my forgiveness is yours. I hope that when the opportunity for grace-filled rehabilitation presents itself to you in any way, you will grab it and you will also give it.

And SO MUCH❤️❤️ to the community of people whose kindness and support I can already feel! We may not all know each other by name or sight, but I know you're there.

If you're at my concert tonight in Stratford, Ontario, at Stratford Summer Music with the Harlem Gospel Choir, or at ANY of my concerts, please come and give me a hug.

My Nearests&Dearests are safe and sound. So am I. At this point, I'm just hoping to avoid an unjustifiable expense and to open a path to restoring what was stolen from me. If you feel you are in the enviable position to spread the word and make a small donation to help me recover what was lost, please do so here and accept my deepest gratitude for your donations, well-wishes, and prayers.
