Mac for the Monks THANK YOU!

Donation protected

The monks have moved. They are somewhere in the cariboo area of BC.

Some of you know them, if you do, you have been blessed by their prayers or their company.

Fr. Gregory, Fr. Samuel and Br. Moses have been doing some research into music for the past few years and have been developing a simpler system of music that is based on gregorian modes. Vladika Irenee has asked them to record the music and transcribe it so we can all use it in our churches.

The beauty of this music is that they have found the gregorian modes to be the ones most universally used before the schism and they are notating (not creating or inventing) a set of music that they will be able to use at the monastry. Typically it is only two of them serving liturgy, so it will be Ison and Melody.

The beauty of this is that we will be able to use it in our parishes. I know many of us have enough skilled singers to do beautiful four part harmony, but many also do not.

I am asking you to give $10 to support the monks efforts. They do not know I am doing this. They wanted help finding a used macbook that has garage band (alternatively, if you have one you want to send to them, contact me and we can cancel this campaign) but I figured that we could raise enough money to get a decent new apple computer, either a desktop or a laptop. The microphones are pretty good either way and I wanted to make sure it had enough space to store a lot of music, as they will not be connecting to the internet.

I am hoping to hit $1500 and get them a good solid new Mac. If we get $500, we will buy them a good used one.

Please share this far and wide, and give us $10 (or more)

the other benefit to this is that we will all get recordings of them singing.

This campaign is being organized by Reader David Pasivirta from Cranbrook BC.
The monks don't know I am doing this. I am hoping we can send them a computer within a month. They are currently building their new house, so they won't be rushing to get their latest album to the magazines until the fall probably.

(Also, don't forget to come to our ecology and spirituality conference in the fall in Cranbrook BC hosted at St. Aidan's Orthodox Church)
