Jerika Bolen Family

My name is Ronny Thompson and I am the Director of Ahtletes for Autism in Milwaukee, WI.

My heart was touched this morning while reading about Jerika Bolen, a 14 year old young lady suffering with Spinal Muscular Atrophy type-2.

The story appears in the Journal Sentinel (Milwaukee, WI), Thursday, July 21 edition and can be read in full here.

In short, the story tells us a bit about Jerika and about her decision to stop ventillator treatment. This will mean she will be unable to breathe and result in her death.

If the goal is achieved, the funds will be dispursed in total (100% of all donations) to Jerika's mother, Jen Bolen of Appleton, in order that they may use these funds to cover a portion of the expenses they surely have incurred over the years.

This means a great deal to me personally because I lost my daughter, Deanna (age 29), in 2009 (in a car wreck).

When I reflect on the loss of my daughter and how young she was, and then realize that Jerika is not even half my daughter's age, my heart aches for her and her family.

Working with families and children with disabilities has taught me humility - losing my own daughter has taught me compassion. Jerika's Family will have an unfillable void when she departs. Anything that can be done to minimize their difficulties, even even so slightly, is a worthy goal.

Thank you for your consideration,
