Black Transwoman housing crisis

Hey everyone!! I am Nona and I am a Black transwoman who like many others is dealing with life's misfortunes and discrimination. I am asking for support to be able to find a place to call home whether its a room in a house or place of my own. Experiencing homelessness makes it hard for me to feel stable and settled. I am not able to take a full time position offered by my job because of the constant stress of couch surfing and sleeping on friend's floors when they barely have room for themselves. The cost of living in DC is the 4th highest in the country, and though I am employed it is still difficult to have enough to meet my basic needs. With my housing situation being so unstable, it is also very difficult to hold multiple jobs. I will be able to seek other employment once I am settled in a home environment for a period longer than a month or two. 


My goal is $3,000 which would help me cover security deposit and 2 months rent. I currently work with CASS (Collective Action for Safe Spaces) I am the part time program manager for the Safe Bar Collective's employment training program which helps to train Trans, Queer and Non-Binary folks for jobs in the restaurant industry. I am lucky to be surrounded by such a beautiful community, and having stable housing will allow me to continue to do this work that I love and believe in. I'm asking for help from people who understand how it feels to be on the outside of what's considered normal and see me as a woman working towards making great things happen for others and myself.
