Tony Schmitz Burn Fund

This is Tony 10 days after accident. Head and face are healing nicely without grafts, swelling has gone down.

Shoulders, arms and hands have had skin grafts. They seem to be working.

His skinned legs where they took the skin for his grafts.

My name is Debra Leonard. I am raising money to help my brother Tony Schmitz pay his bills while he is recovering from burns and his wife is missing work to stay with him at the Burn Unit.

On Friday, September 2nd Tony was driving a U-Haul filled with pallets of cat food for the Cat Santuary in Nashua where his wife Anna works. He hit the guard rail under the 380 exit and the uhaul caught fire and overturned. He pulled his shirt over his head and kicked/pushed his way out of the windsheild and ran from the burning vehichle. Unfortunately all the cars going the same direction from him were stuck behind the burning vehicle so he had to walk the the entrance ramp from 380 to find someone to help him. He said it felt like he was melting. They took him to Waterloo and then air lifted him to the IC Burn Unit at University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City. He has been in the hospital 13 days now. Hopefully if everything goes well he will be moved to the burn rehab unit in Waterloo this week.
Anna has been with him the whole time. They have 4 elementary school children who still live at home, luckily the oldest daughter is out of school and lives in the same town so she has been watching the children while Anna has been with Tony. 
Any money raised will be used to pay bills and help with whatever is not covered by insurance for hospital and burn rehab center stay.
