Help save Katya's life!

I'm reaching out to you on behalf of the Sidorenko family from Ukraine.

Their little daughter Katya, 10 years old, is an intelligent, cheerful, very active, life-loving, adventurous and kind-hearted girl who has her whole life to look forward to. Katya is full of energy; she loves to play tennis and to dance. She is even a part of an ensemble in Kiev. Her dream is to one day become an actress.

Two weeks ago, Katya started coughing a lot, so her parents to took her to the hospital for an examination. The doctors told the parents that Katya’s lungs were filled with liquids and that they had to pump it out. Once that was done, to her family’s horror, she was diagnosed with Lymphoma. Not quite believing the doctors in Kiev (it happens on a regular basis that they misdiagnose patients), they decided to fly all the way over to Israel for a second opinion and possible treatments. The Israeli hospital, Schneider, did a CT scan, MRI, ultrasound, x-rays and confirmed that Katya does indeed have cancer. They then came up with a treatment plan for her that includes chemotherapy and radiation – over the course of the next 2 years. She will also need to be put on drugs to fight the side effects of the chemo. Katya’s survival chances are 80% if she gets the proper treatment, as soon as possible.

The Schneider hospital gave the parents a quote of approx. 100.000 USD.

Katya can get the help and treatment that she needs to help her triumph over cancer in Germany (closer to Ukraine and friends based in Frankfurt could help with accommodation, at least).

Germany has some of the best children’s cancer hospitals in Europe. After doing some research and making a few calls to these hospitals (all over Germany, from Munich to Frankfurt to Cottbus) they have found a few hospitals that could start treating Katya as soon as possible, however the family still lack the funds to do so.

Katya’s parents are now looking at their selling their home in Kiev to help with the financing. I have also seen on social media that they have reached out to family and friends, telling their story and spreading the message to help save Katya’s life.

On average, people in Ukraine make approx. 350USD per month. It will be next to impossible for them to collect the money they need purely from Ukraine.

As a parent, I can't imagine anything worse than your child being given such a diagnosis. Most would do anything to help save their child’s life, anything! But to helplessly stand by and watch your child perish in front of your eyes due to lack of funds when it could get the treatment needed, must be immensely worse.

My plea is to help Katya and her family in this time of need! The road ahead for them is unimaginable. Any donation, even the smallest, would be greatly appreciated and will help Katya in her upcoming battles to beat cancer. If you are unable to donate, you can still help her by spreading this campaign on your social networks.

I will keep giving regular updates on Katya's progress and treatments.

Let's help her beat this!
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
