Drake is, foremost, a sweetheart who loves everyone and everything. He has yet to meet a person or creature that wasn't, to his mind, his friend. He is a Cane Corso mix weighing in (when he's healthy) around 160 lbs.
Drake the dog has been through a lot in his short life. After being found on the streets at three months old, adopted from a shelter when he was five months old, he quickly developed a degenerative issue in the ligaments in his rear legs. By November of 2015 he could barely walk and was in terrible pain when he did.
After two surgeries, a horrible antibiotic-resistant staph infection, and over six months, we thought we were in the clear, which was good because we had just about run out of money, including cashing out a retirement fund to get him through the months of battling the infection. However, shortly after treatment ended he started having issues walking again. When the vet checked, his legs were okay, but the infection has somehow snuck into his spine.
We are currently undergoing treatment to clear out his spinal infection, but it is a long road: Three months of estimated antibiotic use before it will be clear. And we are past out of money and are now well into debt to help this boy get better. With some of his antibiotics costing over $1000/week, we desperately need some help. Please give if you can. Edit: On July 12, Drake passed away on the table during emergency surgery to save his life, necessitated by horrific ulcers caused by extended use of his antibiotics. I leave this campaign active now as an attempt to pay off the debt of his final surgery and funeral expenses. Thank you so much to everyone who can give. I'll continue to post updates of pictures from his life that make us remember what a great dog he was.
