The Digby Area Health Coalition "exists to address the existing situation wherein thousands of citizens of this area lack adequate access to quality health services."
It appears that the reasons for the decline in health care services experienced in the Digby area are systemic inn nature, and unique to this area. The goal is to look for solutions, by understanding how the current situation has evolved.
The DAHC seeks "to tell the story of the decline of health services from the 1980's to present day" and thus "shine light on the NS Health Authority and its predecessors’ failure to adequately recruit and retain health care professionals for service in the hospital and in the municipality and town of Digby".
The DAHC wants to "advocate for citizen-informed solutions to the ongoing problem of the erosion of health care in this under-serviced area".
Ultimately the DAHC seeks to "encourage the provincial government to provide a public audit of the Health Authority and its agents ongoing failure to properly staff our local health care".
As a registered non-profit, The DAHC must raise funds to gather the necessary information. Qualified researchers need to be hired to conduct interviews and gather pertinent documents.
This grass roots movement has been created by local citizens: your friends and neighbours, who may have had experiences similar to yours, and have become frustrated by the continuing failure of our health system to meet our needs. By sharing your personal story, and by helping to make it possible to collect these personal accounts, and analyse the system itself, you will be a part of the solution.
The DAHC needs to begin this research immediately, so that we can work over the summer months to conduct interviews.
