Volunteering in Tanzania

Donation protected
Hi! My name is Becky Masih and I am towards the end of my second year at Roehampton university. Ever since I can remember, I have always wanted to give back to those in an underdeveloped country, dreaming of traveling to Africa to do so. Tanzania is one of those countries where there is so much need in so many areas.

I am beyond excited to say that I have been accepted into the International Volunteer HQ Tanzania Childcare project for 2+1/2 weeks starting August 15, 2016.  During my trip I will be placed in an orphanage in Arusha, Tanzania where I will help with the general running of the orphanage, teaching, cooking, cleaning, farm work, and caring for the children and babies.

If you are able to donate any amount of money to help for supplies, toys, games and clothes for the children I will be forever grateful.

Tanzanian children are eager to learn, but they are faced with a lack of funding, school supplies and just the little things that we take for granted! Typically, an average family lives on up to £1 a day and cannot afford to send their children to school. It is even more challenging for orphanages. If you are able to donate, every little bit counts even £5 goes a long way!

Here are examples of where donations will go:
- Books and school supplies for the orphanage and classrooms
- Monthly tuition for children in need
- Mosquito nets to prevent malaria
- Children's clothing and diapers
- Vitamins and personal items
- First-aid supplies
- Food
- Games, stickers, chalk, face paint, and anything that can bring joy!

Wondering how much to give? Here's what your donation can provide:
- Meal: £1.50
- Various personal items (soap, toilet paper, etc.): £3
- Mosquito net: £4
- School supplies (bag, books, pencils, etc.) per child for a year: £20
- Total costs for primary school per child for a year: £35
- Food for all orphans for one month: £80
- Teacher salary for one month: £80+
- Total costs for secondary school per child for a year: £300+

I hope to broaden my world view and come back home with new perspectives and unforgettable memories I will carry with me through my entire life. But most of all I hope to put a smile on those children's faces every day I am there and give them a feeling of love and comfort that they deserve - even if I am only there for a short time.

If you're interested to learn more about the program or how to get involved ask away.

I will keep a diary and take snaps of where your money will go!

Thank you all so much for taking the time to read this message and for all your donation and support! I can’t even express how excited and grateful to have this opportunity in front of me!
