Justin's Neck And Spine Injury

On July 7th, 2016, my 26 year old brother, Justin, was on vacation with our family in the Outer Banks, North Carolina. After arriving to the beach, Justin, Connor (my 19 year old brother), and I ran towards the ocean. Justin dove into the water and hit his head on a sandbar, which was elevated compared to the rest of the ocean floor. We found Justin face down in the ocean.  My brother ran to get the lifeguard and called 911. With the help of a generous man, I got Justin out of the water and onto the shore. Justin was taken in a helicopter to Norfolk General Hospital, which was a 20 minute flight from OBX.

We learned that Justin fractured his C6, C5, and C4 vertebrae in his neck. Still unclear about the damage, Justin endured a 6-7 hour surgery. The doctor told us that this was one of the worst neck injuries he has ever seen. In saying this, it is a miracle that Justin did not sever his spinal cord, and that it is only badly bruised and compressed.

Justin is a CPA at SIMA Financial Group. He dedicates his life to his job and only wants to do the best work possible. He is known by others to be the hardest working person in the office and is respected by all.The doctor gave Justin a low chance that he will ever walk again, but that does not mean it is impossible. Along with the great health he kept his body in, rehab, and the determination that Justin continuously has, there is still a lot of hope.

Justin is a hardworker.  He is funny , compasionate and courageous. His recovery will certainly be long and difficult, but with our help hopefully he will have full functioning arms and legs.  Any support raised will be used for his out of pocket medical cost, rehibilitation, and any modifications needed at his home.
