Lyft Megan Back onto Their Feet!

Donation protected

My friend Megan is a young genderqueer person living in Denver, and they need your help.

Since graduating in 2015 with a double bachelor’s in Queer Studies and Psychology, they’ve been struggling to stay afloat. While in school, they took care of their education and living expenses through scholarships, loans, and working 5 ½ years at the LGBTQ Student Resource Center on campus advocating for queer and trans students.

After being turned down for a promotion to assistant director, and their other position at the center having expired due to having graduated the previous semester, they sought psychiatric care. Unfortunately, they had a difficult time finding a therapist that was non-discriminatory about their genderqueer identity. They ended up in the emergency room twice and were held a week in a treatment facility.

They were eventually able to find an understanding therapist and started down the long road to recovery. Megan started doing Lyft driving to pay their bills and was on the way to gaining some stability. But then, on June 6, they had a car accident.

Under Lyft’s terms, their car cannot be used for carrying passengers again until the damage has been repaired. Their insurance company is covering the damage, but there is a $500 deductible to clear, and Lyft driving is their only source of income. On top of that, due to lost wages, they also now need assistance to pay their bills this month.

Here's how the money will be used:

$500 car repair deductible

$200 car payment

$500  August rent money (lost wages)

$100 for cell phone, internet, and utility bills

They do not like asking for help, so I am making this campaign for them. Your generosity will help get them back on their feet without risking their home and livelihood, put them back in driver’s seat, and put them back in control of their life. Megan is a great friend and advocate to many, a scholar who worked very hard and graduated with a 3.89 GPA, and a dependable professional. And, after all the hard luck they’ve experienced, I think they deserve a break for once.

Anything at all that you can give would help them out a ton. Even $5 gets them closer to being back at work. They want to attain a Ph. D in counseling psychology in order to work with, advocate for, and do research to assist the trans and non-binary communities. Your gift is an investment in the community, and it would mean the world to them. Please help them out today so that tomorrow they can get back to what they do best: helping others.
