My friend Megan is a young genderqueer person living in Denver, and they need your help.

Since graduating in 2015 with a double bachelor’s in Queer Studies and Psychology, they’ve been struggling to stay afloat. While in school, they took care of their education and living expenses through scholarships, loans, and working 5 ½ years at the LGBTQ Student Resource Center on campus advocating for queer and trans students.

After being turned down for a promotion to assistant director, and their other position at the center having expired due to having graduated the previous semester, they sought psychiatric care. Unfortunately, they had a difficult time finding a therapist that was non-discriminatory about their genderqueer identity. They ended up in the emergency room twice and were held a week in a treatment facility.

They were eventually able to find an understanding therapist and started down the long road to recovery. Megan started doing Lyft driving to pay their bills and was on the way to gaining some stability. But then, on June 6, they had a car accident.

Under Lyft’s terms, their car cannot be used for carrying passengers again until the damage has been repaired. Their insurance company is covering the damage, but there is a $500 deductible to clear, and Lyft driving is their only source of income. On top of that, due to lost wages, they also now need assistance to pay their bills this month.

Here's how the money will be used:

$500 car repair deductible

$200 car payment

$500  August rent money (lost wages)

$100 for cell phone, internet, and utility bills

They do not like asking for help, so I am making this campaign for them. Your generosity will help get them back on their feet without risking their home and livelihood, put them back in driver’s seat, and put them back in control of their life. Megan is a great friend and advocate to many, a scholar who worked very hard and graduated with a 3.89 GPA, and a dependable professional. And, after all the hard luck they’ve experienced, I think they deserve a break for once.

Anything at all that you can give would help them out a ton. Even $5 gets them closer to being back at work. They want to attain a Ph. D in counseling psychology in order to work with, advocate for, and do research to assist the trans and non-binary communities. Your gift is an investment in the community, and it would mean the world to them. Please help them out today so that tomorrow they can get back to what they do best: helping others.

Hello friends, family, community members! Megan here with an update!

Thank you for all you have done to support me. This campaign raised over $1000 in a month, and was shared an enormous 175 times!

Because of you, I now have my car back and it is even more beautiful than before. I was able to pay rent for August, feed myself, and take care of most of my bills. Without you none of this would have been possible. I will be contacting those of you who did not donate anonymously and asking where you'd like for me to mail your thank you card so be on the look out!

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

All my love,

Megan Fowler

We've gotten to our original goal of $1,000! Donors, you are shining examples of how charitably our community takes care of its own. Megan is so tremendously thankful for all that you've done for them. With just $300 more, and their car returning on July 29th in Lyftable condition, they will be completely back on track. Please continue to share this campaign with your friends and family, and let's help this young queer scholar safely along the way to becoming the amazing gender specialist they someday dream of being. Thank you all so much.

We are well on our way to getting Megan back on the road! AS of now, their car is expected to be ready on the 29th. The good news is, this isn't very long from now. The bad news is, the damage was more extensive than we realized and they won't get their car back in time to make rent money. We are raising our goal to 1300 to compensate for this and make sure that Megan gets to pay rent. Please keep sharing this campaign and donate if you are able. Love to all of you!
