Jacqui Bitton, seen here with his lovely family, is a kind, giving family man and a very talented architect. He now faces the prospect of losing his sight completely.
He receives injections in his eyes to preserve the roughly 4% vision he has remaining and, as a result, cannot work. He is on the verge of blindness due to complications from diabetes.
The good news is that there are new procedures that can help him. Technology that will soon be available in his home country of Israel offers hope that his sight, his dignity and his way of life may be restored. Amazing advances such as a tiny computer implanted under his eyebrows that transmits images to a microscopic camera near his retina will very soon be on the market. There is also a camera that would hang around his neck and transmit what it sees to earbuds, enabling him to read street signs, recognize people clearly and possibly even review plans and designs again. These would be huge steps toward him resuming a normal family life and resuming his career as a renowned architect.
He has also been aided by a special pair of glasses developed in Sweden, but now he needs a new, stronger pair of these cutting-edge and costly lenses. His vision was closer to 10% four years ago when he initially obtained a pair, but it has since diminished considerably.
On top of medical costs, he of course has to live and support his wife. He is not yet eligible for social security or any other government benefits, so his bills have piled up quickly.
Please find it in your soul to give whatever you may be able to spare to help this wonderful man see his grandchildren, prolong his life and reclaim his livelihood. Thank you very much and G-d bless you.
