McKenya Egge

My name is Meghan Rettke and I am a sixth grade teacher. I have had the opportunity to teach some amazing children but there is one that will always stick out as long as I live. McKenya was a student in my class my first year of teaching. In March of 2015 McKenya was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma and during the next 9 months she under went chemo and 6 weeks of radiation. During this time she lost so much...her hair, her independence, friends, school, the ability to be a teenager, and the ability to walk. Although she was living  from day to day she still found it in her to smile and continue to fight. She truly was my inspiration. December 2015 came and she was finally cancer free. WOO HOO!!!!!

In January McKenya got to go back to school and mom got to go back to work. Life was just starting to turn back to normal. McKenya was hanging with friends and starting to walk better and better everyday.

That didnt last long enough. In April 2016 McKenya was diagnosed with (ALL) leukemia. Since she has been undergoing chemotherapy once again and fighting harder than ever. Now she needs to undergo a bone marrow transplant. Prior to that she has to undergo a very very hard chemo to get her ready for transplant. On July 14th McKenya's amazing younger sister will be put under and donate her marrow to her big sister. After McKenya receives the new marrow she will have to stay in the hospital for at least a couple months.

During this time her mom and dad will be by her side as well as her younger brother and sister. I know this family doesn't ask for help easily so I figured I'd take it into my own hands. (Sorry Britt) so I ask you from the very bottom of my heart, if you have 5 dollars to spare or 500...please consider giving to this amazing child. If you are unable to give I ask you to please close your eyes and say a prayer for her and her family. I wish all of you had the opportunity to know such an amazing, smart, attitude filled, beautiful child!!!

There has been an account set up for McKenya and if anyone would like to contribute directly please contact Drew Stark at the Wells Fargo in Hutchinson, MN. All donations will go toward medical bills, fuel to drive back and forth, food, and any other expense they have had or will have in the coming months and years.
