Eric's Story
As some of you may already know my father, Eric Dawson, has recently been diagnosed with Leukemia. Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) to be exact . On June17 2016, just before Father's Day, he had a visit to emerge in Nelson where he found out that his fatigue was being caused by a pancytopenia, which is a reduction of all cellular elements of the blood, of course caused by this type of cancer. On June 25 2016 he was send to Vancouver General Hospital via air ambulance to get the best treatment and care possible on the leukemia/BMT unit.
So far it has been a bumpy road but we have managed to stay positive with the love and support of our family and family friends. The health care professionals are very optimistic are taking very good care of Eric.
Eric will have to be in VGH for a significant amount of time to receive very intense chemotherapy and if all goes well eventually a bone marrow transplant.
My mother, Shelly Dawson, has been by my fathers side every step of the way. She is currently living in Vancouver so she can be close to Eric.
Unfortunately this has caused her to miss a significant amount of work and pay for two house holds at once. As well as whatever my father needs (he's certain the food as the hospital isn't edible). With all this going on finances are tight as you can imagine. My father will not be able to work for a year or more after he is on the road to recovery. I want to help them financially but due to my full time schooling I have not been working. I
t is my hope in starting this go fund me that my mother and father can stay focused on the task at hand and not have to stress about work and finances.
As many of you know my parents are selfless givers and are not the type to ask for help so I am taking the liberty to do so. Many people have been asking what they can do to help and I would ask that they continue to be there in support of my family and keep us all in their thoughts a prayers. This is a place people can use to follow updates and make donations if they wish to do so.
