On Tuesday January 5th the Whitten families life was turned upside down. Their daughter Rylie was sick with what they all thought was the flu.  When it was too much to handle she was brought up to Greenville hospital. Greenville quickly ran tests and flew her to Devos Children's hospital. Rylie was in very critical condition. They diagnosed her with Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS) and are working hard to give her the best care and treatment possible. They are working with highly skilled doctors and nurses who are doing everything they can to bring her back to health. They have stated this is the worst case of TSS they have ever had. Rylie remains on life support and kidney dialysis at Devos. The battle is going to be a long and tough one, but with the support of God, family and friends we know Riley will fight this. Rylie's family has been by her side since the moment she was admitted. They are relying heavily on their spiritual faith and appreciate all of the prayers coming in. There is truly a great amount of support from each and every one of you.
We all know how financially challenging a long hospital stay and recovery can be. There are several ways we can support the Whitten family and this is just one of them. I am Rylie's cousin and set up this campaign because I wanted to help Rylie's parents during this difficult time. The family thanks each and every one of you for your love, support, and faith. They ask that you continue to pray for Rylie and her recovery.

Good Morning. Today is Jan 26, 2016. Over the past few days Rylie has once again amazed her doctors, family, friends, and supporters. She was transferred out of the PICU. She is continuing her stay at Devos Childrens Hospital where they expect to transfer her to Mary Free Bed for the rest of her recovery. Since being moved Rylie has been determined. She is walking on her own!!! Something doctors did not predict she would do so quickly. Her strength and motor skills are coming back very quickly and psychical therapy is helping dramatically.
West Michigan has seen a few cases of TSS already this year. One person saw Rylie's story and was able to catch the infection because of the awareness we are all raising. We are so thankful Rylie is doing so great and was already able to make a difference in someone's life. Please continue your support and prayers as we travel through this journey of recovery. We appreciate all of you for thinking of Rylie and her family.

Rylie is completely off of the ventilator and her heart is beating on its own. She has a case of pneumonia and her vocal chords are a little damaged because of the ventilator. Please keep the prayers as each day she gets a little stronger.
There seems to be a bit of confusion on the go fund me page. I am Rylie's cousin and I live in Covington, La. Rylie and the rest of the family is in Greenville, MI. They will receive all donations. I know many people worry about being scammed, rest assured your donations are for Rylie and her family.

Update 19JAN2016
Rylie and her family have been though quite a bit over the last week and a half. Rylie is still in ICU at Devos Childrens Hosptial. She has been on an extracorporeal membrane oxygenation life support machine, receiving kidney dialysis, and several medications all while remianing sedated. Over the past few days Rylie has woken up and looked at her parents. She tries to pull the tubes out so that she can speak. She is a fighter. Her heart is back and she has been stable for some time. This week they will continue to montior and possibly remove the ventilator. Please continue your support and prayers. God is with Rylie and her parents every step of the way.
Here is the most recent local new story on Rylie and TSS.

Thank you for sharing your story. I have 2 teen daughters, 2 teen step daughters, and always have a house full of teen girls, that I will be sharing this article with and make sure to educate them on the severity of toxic syndrome and how it can happen to any girl using tampons. Get well Rylie, praying for a full recovery. Hugs

Are we sure this is for Rylie Whitten? She is located in Michigan yet this page indicates Covington, LA. Also, the link I clicked on to get here had her name spelled wrong (Rylie Whtten). I hope donors aren't being scammed. Prayers for a speedy recovery for Rylie.

Prayers for your family. I can barely read these stories without tears. My child was also flown by aeromed to Helen Devos Children's Hospital in 2014. They saved her life. My oldest child shared your story with me. We were just in the PICU again for yet another surgery. My family reconized you from the waiting room. My prayers are with you. I know what it is to say you have a true miracle. Bless you and everyone who loves her.

While I am not able to donate any money at the moment, I do want to say that I am praying for your family. I was on ECMO at Butterworth hospital a little over a year ago (I also was brought there via AeroMed, and while the cause of my illness was different, this story sounds very familiar). The doctors, nurses, and ECMO teams at Spectrum are wonderful, and prayers are being said for a quick and smooth recovery.
