Hello Everyone,
On July 1st, Mike and his family were on a well deserved camping trip with friends and family. A nice sunny day turned their lives around forever. Mike and his friend went for a ride and only one came back. Mike was in a terrible accident. The ATV he was riding flipped on top of Mike, landing full force on his head. Mike was wearing a full helmet and we know it saved his life.
They immediately jumped in the truck and drove as far as possible, the trail he was on is only meant for trail riders not vehicles. They hiked up to him and sat with him until an emergency evacuation crew arrived. They had to be transported up the hill on atv's. The air ambulance was brought in too but due to the location could only land either up or down the hill from where he was. Once he was put on a stretcher he was carried down to the helicopter. Mike was evacuated to Kelowna (KGH) where he was stabilized and sedated to ease the pain and examined to see the extent of his injuries. Once the severity of his injuries was determined he was air lifted at 5 am to Vancouver.
He has under gone testing to make sure his spine and internal organs are fine, which miraculously they are. But he has been left with traumatic life changing injuries. Mike has severe facial fractures that will likely require multiple facial reconstructive surgeries. He has a compromised air way, which required a tracheostomy to maintain his breathing. He has 3 small bleeds in the brain membranes. He has suffered a total loss of his left eye and likely the complete loss of vision in his right eye, and is expected to be fully blind.
Mike has been the main provider in his family and took pride in his work. If you know Mike at all he is the type of guy who would give the shirt off his back to anyone who needed it, no questions asked. Mike and his wife have 4 wonderful kids between the two them. His wife has taken an undetermined amount time off work to be at his side. As we all know this is a very stressful time and we would like to help the family as much as we can. Mike is expected to be in the hospital and subsequent therapy for quite some time and we want his wife to be by his side as long as possible. So to ease some stress and worry we are reaching out to all of you. If you would like to donate any amount will help and if you can't we understand but please share and get this out there. We would like to make this as easy for Mike and Tanya as we can.
