Gabriel Smith fundraiser

Gabe is an 11 yr old boy from Avoca Beach who loves to surf. A few months ago Gabe was unwell at school with headaches and vomitting. Gabes mum insisted on an MRI which confirmed her worst nightmare - a large brain tumor. Gabe was immediately rushed to Randwick Children's hospital for an extremely risky operation on a very rare and aggressive brain tumor. Unfortunately the surgeon could only remove 50% of the tumor and sadly, Gabe had a small stroke in the operation which has paralysed his left side. As a result, he is unable to walk, move his left arm and see clearly on his left side. The biopsy of the tumor has confirmed the tumor is a very rare childhood cancer (ATRT) and the treatment is at least one year of chemo plus radiation.

Rachel is a single mum with a 14 year old daughter as well. Gabe cannot be left unattended so therefore Rachel can no longer work. The rent and bills keep coming in and the cost of running back and forth from Avoca Beach to Randwick is taking its toll.
