Tragedy hits family of Chip Shearin when moving to Los Angeles.
On Wedneday, June 22nd, all the possessions of the Shearin family were strewn along the highway when the moving company driver feel asleep at the wheel.
Everything the family owned was entrusted to a national moving company when fatigue set in and within moments all was lost. Thankfully, the driver survived. Chip's family's entire household including priceless mementoes of the children, sentimental items from loved ones, even the family car, all destroyed or damaged beyond recognition. Chip, a world reknown Bassist, Composer and Producer, lost bass guitars that made history.
This campaign is an effort to assist the family to recover from such a devastating event and hopefully begin to bring normalcy back for his young sons. The losses go far beyond the contents of that moving truck. Before Chip can even move forward, there is a lengthy investigation to be completed before funds for replacing items will be issued.
Chip has been such a contributor in so many lives. Through his music, his lecture series to Music majors, philanthropy, mentoring and endless hours supporting fellow musicians, Chip has given back. This is an opportunity to Give ......for those who have enjoyed listening to Chip's bass line in Rapper's Delight or enjoyed a free concert for a worthy cause.

Chip Shearin played the iconic bass line on the song, "Rapper's Delight", earning him a place in the Rock and Roll Music Hall of Fame. This Durham native left for New Jersey at the age of 18 and his work went on to make musical history. Sugar Hill Gang needed Chip to hold down a 15 minute bass line without a mistake to record what would be known as the song that introduced Hip Hop music to the world.
Chip grew up in NC where he attended both NC Central University and Duke University. His love for NC always brought him back whether it be to spend time with family, lecture about the business of music at Duke or launch his latest CD. North Carolina is a place Chip holds dear.
Los Angeles has also played a huge role in Chip's career. His talent and creative input caught the eye of artists such as Janet Jackson, Christina Aguilera, Aretha Frankin , Ceelo Green and Marion Meadows. When comedian Sinbad decided to showcase his musical talents, he enlisted Chip to tour with him.
In the center of all of this musical fame, is the anchor that keeps Chip grounded. While he is fully engaged when composing music for movies, recording a new album or producing music for television, Chip is never more dedicated and devoted than he is to family. He found himself dialing back his music industry commitments to be at the bedside of his mother and help usher her through her last days. He is a constant in the life of his father and his oldest son who is educating in NC. His extended family is plentiful and he makes time for them.
Chip's passions have made his life one of a bicoastal existence. LA to Raleigh/Durham is a well worn travel route.
The funds will be used to help restore the needs of Chip's sons, provide the family with basic items for daily living and ease the stresses of replacing their entire household. The equipment Chip uses to make a living is destroyed. This rebuilding process is daunting. This campaign will restore lost items but will also restore a family.
