I got WNV in 2012. I saw you on the news tonight. There are several support groups for WNV survivors on Facebook. You might want to join. I would have gone crazy without the support and info. Most docs are not very helpful. https://www.facebook.com/groups/63045475918/
I would urge you to first have him go for hyperbaric oxygen treatment before going for rehab. My husband had the very same effects a few years ago. At about the four month mark, after having daily rehab at the inpatient rehab, he was still unable to move much at all and that's when I found out about hyperbaric oxygen. I was able to start taking him for treatments every week day for a total of 40 treatments. It made ALL the difference. After 21 treatments he was starting to be able to stand and take steps. He walks now with a cane and does best with a brace on his weakest leg. The therapists told us later they thought we'd be wasting our money but that they were very happy they were wrong and they said clearly HBOT had made the difference.
Get this on TV again so that you can get more donations.
Feel free to contact me on FB if you would like to talk to us about our experience with WNV and hypberic oxygen theraphy. I believe my husband is able to do so much more now than he might have without it.
Hyperbaric oxygen treatment is not cheap....but your money might be better spent there first and then begin rebuilding once he's able to move more.
Nick. You are not alone. There are several West Nile Support Groups on FB. Please reach out. We all understand and can help answer many of your questions. We hope to hear from you. Best wishes for a full and speedy recovery (WNM 10/2015)
I'm so sorry you got WNV. I also got West Nile in 2012. There are over 1000 of us on the West Nile Virus support group on Facebook. The group provides support if you need it and more importantly, valuable information. You'll find others who understand what you're going through. Please be patient and gentle with yourself. Keep your stress levels low and get plenty of rest. Recovery takes time. Wishing you and your family all the best.
Best of luck... Praying for you... Mind it forward... Healed!!! Large doses of flax seed might help, can't hurt. They use that for military wounded suffering from brain injury...
Man I feel for you I myself have had West Nile I caught the virus in New Orleans after Katrina it's a pretty scary deal I felt Atleast also to add to it I also got spinal menagites not sure if my spelling is correct but I think it close. Anyhow yeah I lost over 80lbs and ran a Fever that went up to 105 at times causing me to spend over a month in the hospital two weeks of witch was in ICU also in away had to pretty much learn to walk again my nerves were all out of control as well shaking and twitching almost all the time. I think it was Atleast a full year before I even started to feel normal again.. Now if I get a bite I freak out!! And if I even feel close to how I felt I get very worried that I caught it all over again. The Doc told me cause of how young I was and that my health was very good at the time I caught it is what saved my life otherwise I had a very large chance of passing away!!! Sorry for the long story but just wanted to let you know I feel for you knowing how your feeling right now!!! Hang in there buddy it will pass in time but it's going to be along road if yours is anything like what I had!! I Forsure hope the cash helps you and your family I will keep you all in my prayers.. P.S. feel free to Private Message me if you would like or have any questions maybe a doc can't answer in better terms. Like more down to earth.. Take care.
