My husband, Nick who is 32 has spent 10 days in the ICU and is now in a regular room at the hospital. He lost the use of his legs after being bit by a mosquito that carried West Nile Virus. Less than 1% of people who get WNV have the serious effects of what my husband got. For days he was mentally altered and the Dr's didn't know if he had permanent brain damage. We have two small children (3yr old and 5month old) who miss him more than anything. There was a mistake with our health insurance and we just found out we don't have any. The state has denied us any help as well even though my husband currently doesn't have a job because our business unfortunately didn't make it and had to be closed down in December. He has been watching the children while I work. The Dr's said Nick's only chance to walking again is extensive rehabilitation therapy. I am working but paying for daycare for two children and we don't have the money for therapy or the huge amount of hospital bills that are still incurring. Our children haven't seen him in almost two weeks and the only thing Nick wants to do is be able to one day run and play with the kids again. Anyone that can help our family out during this difficult time please know that we will pay it forward when we get back on our feet. Thank you for your time.

I got WNV in 2012. I saw you on the news tonight. There are several support groups for WNV survivors on Facebook. You might want to join. I would have gone crazy without the support and info. Most docs are not very helpful. https://www.facebook.com/groups/63045475918/

I would urge you to first have him go for hyperbaric oxygen treatment before going for rehab. My husband had the very same effects a few years ago. At about the four month mark, after having daily rehab at the inpatient rehab, he was still unable to move much at all and that's when I found out about hyperbaric oxygen. I was able to start taking him for treatments every week day for a total of 40 treatments. It made ALL the difference. After 21 treatments he was starting to be able to stand and take steps. He walks now with a cane and does best with a brace on his weakest leg. The therapists told us later they thought we'd be wasting our money but that they were very happy they were wrong and they said clearly HBOT had made the difference.

Hyperbaric oxygen treatment is not cheap....but your money might be better spent there first and then begin rebuilding once he's able to move more.

Man I feel for you I myself have had West Nile I caught the virus in New Orleans after Katrina it's a pretty scary deal I felt Atleast also to add to it I also got spinal menagites not sure if my spelling is correct but I think it close. Anyhow yeah I lost over 80lbs and ran a Fever that went up to 105 at times causing me to spend over a month in the hospital two weeks of witch was in ICU also in away had to pretty much learn to walk again my nerves were all out of control as well shaking and twitching almost all the time. I think it was Atleast a full year before I even started to feel normal again.. Now if I get a bite I freak out!! And if I even feel close to how I felt I get very worried that I caught it all over again. The Doc told me cause of how young I was and that my health was very good at the time I caught it is what saved my life otherwise I had a very large chance of passing away!!! Sorry for the long story but just wanted to let you know I feel for you knowing how your feeling right now!!! Hang in there buddy it will pass in time but it's going to be along road if yours is anything like what I had!! I Forsure hope the cash helps you and your family I will keep you all in my prayers.. P.S. feel free to Private Message me if you would like or have any questions maybe a doc can't answer in better terms. Like more down to earth.. Take care.
