When my "sun" & daughter lost their father in March due to cancer related treatment, my daughter & I came home with her 12 year old brother. His mother also died of cancer related treatment when he was 6.
During the last 3 months I've been introduced to the North Carolina family court system, and my attorney.
I am impressed with neither.
Family court now decides how I spend the benefits awarded to my new son - which made sense, until it didn't.
Without a conversation to his therapist, teachers or even myself, family court decided that a tutor was too expensive, (although his barely passing report card tells a different story), organized sports is not a necessity, (although he excels at soccer, and played in NY) & that I allocate a food budget to the tune of Raman noodles & McDonald's - $360 a month.
All this, so he can be a mediocre "man" at 18, with money in the bank.
In his 12 short years, my son has been dealing with extraordinary circumstances. He needs more than a roof over his head, clothes on his back, empty calories & cash when he is 18.
The money I am raising will support the areas that family court reduced in his budget (including his tutor, soccer training, and travel expenses (so he can visit his family in NY).
My initial response was to fight, & i've spent three months doing that.
My new approach includes shifting the energy around this, so that I am doing what makes me happy.
And that is Giving.
