It has been some time since I last posted about Mike’s journey.  As you all know he had chosen a non conventional way for treatment that has nearly bankrupted us. After thousands of dollars being spent , we have to find yet another way to treat his cancer as it has become more invasive. That being said, we will be going for treatment in AZ.  He has had to take a leave of absence from his job which will cause a huge burden on our income. We thank all those who have helped us in his journey thus far.  We are so very thankful for all the words of encouragement, and the prayers. We are staying positive that this treatment will help him with his battle. Everyday is a struggle but God willing we look for a positive outcome. My Ohana and I thank your for all the love and support, we are forever grateful.

After 2 1/2 years Mike has lost his battle with cancer as of 4:45PM this afternoon.

No more pain and suffering, his desire was not to do chemo a 2nd time around and God saw to it that his prayers had come true.

As we now take the next step on his journey, we as a family would like to thank each and every one of you for all the donations, love support, prayers. We could not have done this without any of you.

We will miss you, Papa, Dad, Hubs, Brother, Uncle, Cousin. Fly high with the angels! We love you!!!!!

Mike completed his 11 radiation treatments to open to his air way in his left lung and is now able to breathe better. Our latest visit to the oncologist was not good. He has now formed tumors in his lymph nodes and they are popping up on his neck, left shoulder, and his head. His CT scan shows that the cancer is also in his liver.

The oncologist says that he can be treated with chemo, but as weak as he is they are not sure if it is going to do more harm, it’s a 50/50 chance. I am asking God to give him peace and comfort as I know even though he is the sick one, he worries about the additional medical bills that are upon us with going thru treatment a 2nd time

It is the hardest thing to see your loved one, the most closest one to you, suffer and dying right before your eyes and there is nothing that you can do. I would not wish this awful disease of cancer on anyone.

It may just be a matter of weeks before we lose him, he is fighting as hard as he can. All we can do is try to keep him as comfortable as possible.

We as a family thank you all for being part of this journey for without your support, love, prayers we could not have made it thru.

Please continue to pray for Mike’s comfort and peace, and to also keep us as his family in your prayers.

We love you all so very much. Never in my wildest dreams would I have ever thought that cancer would be a big part of my later life. Please take the time to tell you’re loved ones how much they mean to you and how much you love them for tomorrow is never promised. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Mike did agree to do the radiation and completed his last treatment today. He will be going for a CT scan to see how things are in his chest cavity and left lung.

We will then be scheduling his chemo treatment.

He needs to be on oxygen pretty much 24/7. We are looking to purchase a portable unit for sake of convenience as the tank can sometimes be difficult to maneuver.

He is very fatigued, but is still walking and talking.

We never thought we would be doing this a second time around and thank all of you for your support.

We do continue to ask for your prayers as the chemo that he will be going thru this time around will be much tougher than the first.

Asking God for guidance through this 2nd time around process, it is not an easy road and I just don’t know how people get thru it without God in their life.

We thank and love you alll!

It’s been quite sometime since I posted an update. Mike went back to AZ in May to start his weekly chemo treatments and 5 days a week radiation treatments. It was completed on June 21, and he came home to heal. We both thought his healing was going fine and he started to do little odds and ends around the house, we were then scheduled to go back to AZ for follow up appointments on 10/22/18.

Then last week he got really sick, uncontrollable coughing at times, dizziness, went to ER, was told that he was dehydrated, and no fever, lungs are clear, vitals are good.

Then comes Monday, 10/15/18. I’m in Kihei for a dentist appointment for JJ. I drop him off at 2:15 PM. I get multiple calls from my son that I’m not able to pick up until I get back in the truck. Mike gets on the phone, tells me he is short of breath and the entire room is spining, I tell him to call 911 and I will meet him at the ER.

We meet up and the paramedics tell me that his heartbeat was irregular and that he was losing oxygen and it was a good thing that they were called as he was having a heart attack.

The ER docs start working on him getting an IV going and doing X-Rays and a CT scan. A cardiologist is there and delivers some not too good news. Mike definitely had a mild
heart attack and they found a very large
mass over his left lung and some spots on his liver, the cancer has metastasized and spread to the left lung and also his liver. The cardiologist confirms that’s Mike is too weak to fly to AZ for his follow up treatments.

I am numb.

There is so much fluid in his lung that they can’t see what’s behind it. He gets scheduled to have his lungs drained.

The oncologist comes in the next morning to tell us that the cancer has also spread to his chest cavity. He gives Mike several different options for chemo, this treatment will now target his entire body and not a specific area like his last treatment.

Then the radiation oncologist comes in after Mike’s lung is drained and tells us that his left lung is collapsed and he will need some to have that area radiated so that the trachea can start pumping air into his lung. Mike cannot commit at this point, he is still trying to make sense of it all. He isn’t overwhelmed.

He is currently in Maui Memorial Medical Center in ICU. He will give them an answer today.

He just doesn’t know why this isn’t happening to him and he has a meltdown.

The staff is very comforting and apologetic, they tend to husband every need.

Mike has told me that if the cancer came back he is not sure if he can go thru the treatments again. I tell him that whatever he decides, I will support it. He doesn’t want to be a burden, I tell him that’s he never was. Please continue to pray for us as he will make his decision today.

This visit to the hospital has helped us tremendously. We are transitioning his care from AZ to Maui, with the help of the docs and nursing staff, everything is being set up for us for continuity of care and comfort whether he decides to or not to continue on.

We would like to thank all the staff for all their assistance, from the patient advocate at the Pacific Cancer Foundation, Island Hospice for supportive care, Maui Memorial Medical Center, my Ohana and friends for your continued support. We could not be going thru this journey with out all of you.

As we continue on with Mike’s Journey, we put all of our trust and faith in God, for without him we would not be able to do this.

Mahalo to all of you for being on this journey with us, we love you all!
