My name is Maria Kupper and after months of hard work, and meeting many fantastic Sander’s supporters like you, I am honored to represent Bernie Sanders at the Democratic National Convention for Kentucky’s 3rd Congressional District. The Sander’s delegation to Philly is the next crucial stage of his political revolution. Our delegation will vote for a more progressive Party platform, and it is important that we help send Bernie delegates who are dedicated to shaping the Democratic platform in ways that represent us - the people, not super-PACs and corporations.
As a teacher I know first hand how important it is to invest in the education and health of future generations. I believe strongly in Sander’s platform to make education more affordable, to get money out of politics, to expand medicare to all, and to make voting more accessible to all Americans. Additionally, we must invest in our working class, by fighting for union rights, and supporting a $15 minimum wage.
This past year when Senator Sanders told the nation that nothing would change unless millions of people stood up, and became involved in the political process, I decided I could no longer sit on the sidelines. After attending a Bernstorming rally in early February, I became more engaged in the campaign. I hosted weekly phone banks from my house, volunteered at the Bernie Sander’s rally here in Louisville, attended Bernie events, and canvassed door-to-door.
My husband, Kyle West, and I are both delegates and will be traveling with a group to Philly, and sharing a room with other delegates in order to cut down on costs. However, it is still expensive to be a delegate and attend the National Convention, which is why I am asking for donations to help cover the cost of travel and the hotel in Philadelphia.
