Earthquake Relief for Ecuadorians

I'm Jerome Kiley, a volunteer missionary from Boston who has been in Ecuador for the majority of the last 3 years. The Ecuadorian people are my friends and like another family. I was not in a location seriously affected when the earthquake of April 16 hit, as houses shook and we lost power for a little while, but no one was hurt and the damage was minimal. But I am joining in with the Ecuadorian people and the world in the rescue and relief effort of hundreds of thousands of affected people. I'm inviting you to join in, too.
First, the rescue effort continues to find survivors, and to honor the dead. Each day on the local news, there are amazing and miraculous stories of more people being found. Please keep all these people in your prayers, that all involved can continue to hope and find miracles in the midst of such a tragedy.
As for emergency relief, I'll be joining with my friends the Franciscan Missionaries of St Joseph, with the Diocese of Ibarra, and likely also with Caritas Quito in providing physical and financial assistance for those in need. This includes direct donations of money, as well as joining in a particular delivery group that will travel to the affected areas and provide for some part of material and spiritual needs of the people. The plans are still dynamic and unfolding, so I will keep this site updated as more details come out. I'm hoping to have whatever money has been raised ready to donate on Friday, April 29.
The needs are very great, and there are many generous instutions and organizations offering their help that are worthy of giving to. I invite you to consider all your options in giving! If you'd like to to join with me, I'll be sure that your donation is responsibly used as directly as possible in the relief effort.
(As a note, and just to be clear, we are focused on emergency relief, which is different from long-term assistance that will be needed afterwards.)
The most urgent material need of the people is WATER. There are also needs for non-perishable food, baby food, bedding, diapers, tents, flashlights, batteries, and everything related to personal hygiene. There are also costs for the needs of the delivery team, including transportation and food. And as you can imagine, there is also a huge need for spiritual and psychological help for all affected.
Amidst the disaster, it's beautiful to see the hand of God reaching people to lift them up and leaving behind and forever his fingerprints of love and mercy.
One of those fingerprints could be yours.
