ZIMLONDON AND DIASPORA URGENT CALL FOR CYCLONE IDAI RELIEF ASSISTANCE
The Zimbabwe Diaspora Coordinating Committee for Disaster Relief (ZDCCDR) was established by the Embassy of the Republic of Zimbabwe in the United Kingdom and the Diaspora Community based in the United Kingdom to collectively respond to the national humanitarian emergency in Zimbabwe.
Extensive areas of the Eastern Highlands in Zimbabwe (Chimanimani, Mutare, Mutasa, Chipinge and Zimunya) have been badly hit by Tropical Cyclone Idai. To date 98 fatalities have been confirmed, with hundreds of people still missing and thousands or people left without homes.
People have been urged to go to higher ground. Some are sheltered in hotels or makeshift areas. There is no food or clean water.
WHAT WILL THE MONEY BE USED FOR
The funds raised will be used for relief efforts including food, shelter, water and medical supplies. Our primary focus is to make sure the money that will be raised here will purchase
- Non-perishable foods
- Clean bottled water
- Blankets
- Medical supplies
WHO WILL MANAGE IN ZIMBABWE
We will work with Jacque Rowe Andersonwho heads the Miracle Missions in Zimbabwe. They will coordinate the efforts together with other relief agencies to see where exactly the need is most.
As part of the Zimbabwe Cares Network of charitable organisations we have great trust that Miracle Missions will get the aid where it is needed.
HOW WILL THE MONEY REACH ZIMBABWE
The money will be sent to Zimbabwe through either ZymPay or Cassava. Both companies have agreed that they will not charge us fees on humanitarian grounds. All the food & supplies will be bought in Zimbabwe or surrounding countries and then transported to Chimanimani and Chipinge for distribution.
WHO ARE WE
We are a group of Zimbabwean diaspora in the UK who have been called together by the Zimbabwe Embassy in London to provide support where we can. We will work collectively to ensure accountability for every penny raised on this platform. We will provide regular updates and accounting and will try to keep records of each transaction, the food purchased and any other costs incurred which we will share here.
Thank you all for your help.
