Friends, 

We can never be truly prepared for tragedy, the unthinkable. Today I found out that my dear friend, my "Work-Mom", Laura Helgren, learned that her daughter Melody was a victim of gun violence.  

As I sat feeling helpless, unable to truly comprehend what she must be feeling, I reached out to my friends - Ms. Laura's friends - and we all realized that we must do something other than offering condolences.

Ms. Laura is the matriarch of the Helgren family and as long as any of us have known her, has worked tirelessly and often thanklessly to make sure that everyone in her family is provided for. While we can never take away her pain, it is my hope that we can make things a little easier for her by helping her financially with the expenses that she is incurring and will continue to incur as long as Melody remains on life support, and after. 

Melody is leaving behind her devastated mother Laura, her sisters Cindy and Hope, and her son Ean. I am asking you, friends, former co-workers and family for whatever you can spare to help.  With a smile, a loving hug, and without a moment of hesitation, know that Ms. Laura would do the same for you.
