My name is Kimberley King and I own Adimus Dog Services LTD. At the moment, we offer training, walking and dog-sitting to people in the local area (Wolverhampton, Walsall, Dudley etc). We have been up and running for seven years and have helped thousands of owners get the dog of their dreams through positive-reinforcement training.
I want to do more to help!
I want to have a space that holds everything doggy under one roof. A rescue kennels, a boarding kennels, a groomers, a socialisation room (where dogs from both kennels can have supervised playtime and the public can pay to socialise their dogs, too. This room will also double as a space to hold classes on an evening for owners to bring their dogs to three levels of training classes) and a coffee house so people visiting any of the services can have a drink and either wait until their dogs have been groomed or are played out, or to discuss dogs they've seen in the rescue kennels and may adopt.
By having everything under one roof, we're building the security of the business. Most rescue kennels fail because they can't afford to keep the dogs housed and fed as they don't find the necessary number of new homes and therefore don't get the necessary money. In our kennels, money is coming from lots of other facets so we should never face having to close down.
On top of that - the kennels is going to be run by existing trainers. This means that every dog, every day will be walked and trained. We will train any behaviours that need changing - whether that's basic obedience like sit and down, or basic behaviours like no jumping up and biting. We also have the experience and knowledge to help train more serious behaviours like dog or people aggression, nervousness, guarding and more. This way, people who are thinking of adopting a dog from us will get a partially-trained dog. We will also make training with us madatory for 5 sessions so any settling-in problems are delt with before bad habits have the chance to form. This will help secure forever homes rather than have 'problem dogs' returning to kennels time and time again.
I have listened to customers talking about problems they've had with grooming experiences, or have come to us because they have adopted a rescue dog, but haven't had the first clue of what to have expected. By listening to these complaints, I know exactly what the public are looking for and this all spells for a successful business.
We need to raise at least £60,000 to have a deposit to buy over an existing kennel business and revamp to our standards. At first, we will be limited to just boarding kennels and socialisation/training room. As business grows and we get a good profit, we can prove to the bank that we can afford a bigger loan and add the grooming salon and coffee shop and finally, the rescue kennels. I'm asking for £10,000 from Gofundme to show myself that the public do want to change the doggy-world. By expecting our rescue centres to do more with the dogs they house, we will help so many dogs get and stay in new homes with owners who are happy.
We're hoping to raise the full amount of money within a year and, if we're able to, we can get a loan from the bank and start the dream.
If we were able to do this, I wouldn't even be able to describe how grateful and amazed I would be. When I started Adimus during a recession, everyone but my best friend told me that it would fail. I was starting a luxury business in a time when people were tightening their belts. I believed in Adimus, though, and it is a success. I want to continue that success and take the staff I have with me to fuel that success within a rescue centre setting. I had a dream that Adimus would have a finger in every dog-pie and would be able to change the way the public thinks about dog care and behaviour.
