Renee Stokes Family Expense Fund
As many of you have seen on the news, Renee was driving members of her family (7 in total) in a van on Wait Avenue in Wake Forest when a large truck crossed the centerline of the road, striking the van and killing Renee and her 13 year-old niece, Angel Rebollar. In the van were her three boys: Isaac (10), Elijah (5), and Seth (3 months), as well as her mother Debra Desha (61), and another niece Crystal Rebollar (10), all of which were transported to WakeMed for injuries. Along with her sons, she also leaves behind her husband Matt, who is a detective with the Greenville Police Department.
I personally have had the pleasure of spending significant time with Renee, Matt, and especially their son Issac (a Webelo Scout) as a den leader in Cub Scout Pack 500 over the past 4 years. Renee, Matt, and Issac were permanent fixtures in most of our Pack activities, and were selfless in helping all of the scouts in our Pack, even with the challenges of their busy work/school schedules and ever-growing family. They drove from Wilson, NC nearly every Monday night to participate in den meetings and outings, and her son Elijah was planning on joining the Pack this upcoming year. The family as a whole was very active with our Pack, and the growth we have seen with Issac was incredible since joining as a 1st grader. The Stokes family simply loved scouting. Accordingly, we feel compelled as a Pack to help these good people in their time of need.
Renee's family was not one of great means, but was wealthy in their strong faith, as they attended Hope Lutheran Church in Wake Forest. The family will be facing many financial challenges over the upcoming months regarding funeral expenses as well as medical bills, as well as emotional challenges with 3 young boys losing their mother. As part of the Scout Oath, our boys pledge to "help other people at all times." Accordingly, the scouts of Pack 500 are asking for donations of any size to help offset the family's losses as a result this tragedy.
In this age of social media, please consider sharing this to your networks...together, we can make a huge difference for this wonderful family.
Thank you in advance for your consideration of this worthy cause!

Renee was in my dance classes. She stopped lessons because her son's scout night was the same night as our classes. He needed her still and she put him first. I'm glad he and she got that time. She was a wonderful dancer. She fit right in. We all adored her. There is a tribute post to her on our teacher's Facebook page. We didn't have her long, but, she made an impact. It hurts us all terribly to know this fate for her and her loved ones. I hope the injured heal completely. Blessings to all of you in going forward.
