GTSF needs your HELP!! My name is Nikki Berti and I'm the co-founder of the Goodie Two Shoes Foundation, a grass-roots, Las Vegas-based 501c3 organization.
In the early morning of June 12th, 2016 beginning at 1:55am our warehouse was burglarized, and damaged! For a reason yet to be determined, our state-of-the-art alarm system failed to trigger and for several hours six perpetrators in three vehicles, stole shoes and equipment meant for our community's most needy kids.
Goodie Two Shoes provides disadvantaged children and children in crisis with new shoes and socks, via 25 highly-coordinated, on-site, school-based shoe distribution events -- each outfitting 400 students very much in need. We outfit more than 10,000 children annually right here in Las Vegas, and we've served over 70,000 kids since we started our programming in 2003.
The thiefs took an entire distribution worth of shoes and equipment valued at between $15k and $20k. In addition, the damage they caused in breaching the building is costing several more thousand dollars in repairs. The monies raised will help cover the costs of repairs, deductibles, equipment and product replacement. And, our awesome friends at Zappos.com have offered to donate one pair of shoes to us for every $25 we raise up to $10,000, which is incredibly generous and very appreciated. That will help us recoup our losses significantly faster and also result in us outfitting two needy kiddos with shoes and socks for every $25 donated!!!
As a very lean organization with only four staff members, we are reeling! We are trying to sort all of this out! Nonprofit resources are so hard to come by and it's so very disheartening, sad, hurtful and maddening to have someone come into your space, brazenly, and steal what you work so hard for on behalf of kids who often don't have something as simple as a properly fitting pair of shoes. It makes my stomach turn! This is one less school distribution and lots of anguish, emotion and frustration! Who does this sort of thing?!!
