My name is Jill and I started this account to help my sister Jessica and brother in law Matt. My 6 year old nephew Kobe will be undergoing brain surgery later this week. Matt and Jessica will both be off work for over 2 weeks and need help with medical bills and living expenses during their stay at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. Every little bit will help them out. Please pray that Kobe's surgery goes smoothly. Thank you.
This is their story:
Since day one- Friday May 27th Kobe woke up a different kid. We noticed abnormal movements in his right arm and leg. We went to 3 different facilities and saw 3 different doctors and were told to just "monitor" him and follow up with our regular pediatrician. First thing Tuesday morning (after the holiday weekend) we went to see his Dr. He ordered an MRI and referred us to the only neurologist in Bakersfield that will see kids. Well the following week we saw him and at that time he ordered a stat MRI and a couple other tests because insurance was taking their sweet time to authorize the first. So 2 weeks later, after trying to figure why this is happening, Kobe was diagnosed with what UCLA docs are calling a Cavernous Malformation on the left side of his brain. This is what caused the abnormal movements which now too have a name - Hemichorea. His brain surgery will be scheduled later this week. We will be here for a minimum of 2 weeks. We miss our girls and our home but know we are doing what's best for our little man.
