Demaret Area Care

I want to let you know about the Demaret Area Care ‘Clean Up’ project. I’m organizing this project by bringing together the efforts of virtuous individuals who want to help. The trash in the streets is unsightly, and causes hazards for everyone especially the children who play here.

With the collected efforts of individuals in the area, the goal is to get all the yards and streets clear of loose trash and debri on June 19th. If you’d like to help make this possible, I invite you to take action and make a difference by volunteering an hour of your time anytime during the daylight hours of June 19th. If not that, $3 from each building would be more than enough to provide a cleaner, safer home, but any contribution will be appreciated.

Here’s the plan

I will be making my rounds through the community, introducing myself and inviting people to contribute to the trash clean-up project.
What I will be trying to get:

-Permission to clean private yards. I am not authorizing trespassing. I am not authorizing anyone to enter another person’s fenced-in area. If I do not receive explicit consent from the resident or homeowner, then individuals cleaning the area will be informed and will be responsible for how much implicit consent(permission) they assume to have from the resident/homeowner to clean their yard.

-I will be asking for residents to “like” the Facebook page that I built called ‘Demaret Area Care’. This will prove to be a powerful tool in our ability to focus resources on specific, practical goals. This will also provide an invaluable venue where we each person has a presence in our community. Anyone can join, as the page is not exclusive to residents. Anyone who has a virtuous interest in this neighborhood is welcome to join. Within the page, you can communicate with other members, many of which live here in the neighborhood. So for example, if you are having a yardsale, or a big barbeque and want to invite your neighbors, this will be a great way to do it.

-I will be inviting people to contribute to this program by asking them to help fill trash bags for at least one hour, anytime June 19th during daylight hours.

-I will be inviting people to contribute to this program by asking if they would like to invest just $3, though any donation will be appreciated.

Beyond that, my mission will simply be to inform the neighborhood about June 19th so that everyone is aware of what is going on.

While I intend to knock on every door, I know that I will not get to speak to everyone. If you think it’s in our best interest to cooperate with each other, then I ask that you help me out by spreading the word. Let your neighbor know, and make sure they like us on Facebook as well.

Throughout the week, I will be returning to addresses that I have not been able to get information from. By the end of the week, any address that I did not get permission from will be listed on the Facebook page and filled in with red on the map so that there is no confusion.

At 10 a.m. June 19th I will be at the “T” of Snead and Demaret Drive with bags for volunteers. After handing out bags for volunteers and sending them off, I will have a few guys who have agreed to provide their labor in exchange for some of the monetary contributions received from residents. The goal is to get all trash from the size of a bottle cap or straw, into trash bags on the side of the street before Sunday evening. We may even accommodate large trash such as furniture.

Monday morning I will have all bags filled for this project hauled off to the dump. All monetary expenses necessary to make this happen will come from the contributions of individuals.

Any contributions that remain after all expenses for this project are paid will be used for the next Demaret Area Care project, which will be influenced by anyone on the facebook page. This is not something I intend to profit financially from.

I want to send the message that people are worth investing in. Even strangers, and I would also like to influence other people, in other neighborhoods to reach out to strangers, and come up with peaceful ways to get things done. I would like to teach the next generation that in order to do what is best for ourselves, it’s often more efficient to cooperate with others and combine voluntarily contributed resources to accomplish common goals.
