Ms. Luberta used her social security check to come up to Wilmington from TX. She slept on bus stop benches for about 3 weeks until I got a call out to check on her. I was able to get her set up in an extended stay hotel out of pocket and with the help of some amazing people who donated to this woman's story.
Myself and another officer are doing everything in our power to find a solution to this issue. Unfortunately there are quite a few roadblocks in our way, and our goal is to keep Luberta off the streets until we can find a permanent solution.
When I went out there last night at 1030pm to check on her, I had received a call from the front desk saying they were worried as they had not seen her. I got out of bed, drove out there, fortunately she wS absolutely fine, but what she said to me as I was leaving stuck with me.
She said "I pray, I pray a lot. I get lost in prayer sometimes. I prayed for help from God. When I was sleeping on park benches and no home and not eating right. I prayed. And he sent me you. I asked for something and he gave me you"
You never know when you can be someone's angel. I'm trying to be hers as much as I can.
Thank you in advance for your support.
