Did you know that an African American child born in East Oakland can expect to live 15 fewer years than a White child born in the Oakland Hills? Roots Community Health Center is an East Oakland nonprofit dedicated to addressing this inequity through integrated health services and empowerment initiatives.
On August 13th, we are hosting a Back-to-School Health & Resource Fair for the community. Roots would like to provide backpacks and school supplies to all the children in attendance, and we need your help to make it happen!
A $25 donation will provide a backpack full of school supplies for one child
A $50 donation will provide school supplies for five children
A $100 donation will provide ten backpacks for children

The mission of Roots Community Health Center is to eliminate Oakland’s health disparities by providing culturally competent, comprehensive healthcare, mental healthcare, and wraparound services and by building capacity for self-sufficiency and empowerment. Our work is driven by a commitment to the “whole health” of our community and the individuals we serve, which is why we actively integrate services and intensive case management to address physical and mental health needs as well as the social determinants of health. African Americans in our service area experience staggering health disparities, including significantly shorter life expectancy, higher disease burden, and more unmet health needs than the rest of Alameda County. Almost 50% of community members in our service area live below 200% of the poverty line.
We aim to break the cycle of poverty by making health and opportunity possible--by healing our community from within. Please join us in this effort by supporting our Back-to-School Health & Resource Fair!
