Hello, my name is Jacob Mazurek, I am 27 years old, and am currently a graduate student at the University of Minnesota studying Conservation Biology.
This past Saturday (June 4th 2016) I was elected to represent the people of Minnesota as a Bernie Sanders delegate at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia. I am extremely humbled and grateful to have the privilege of taking part so intimately in our democratic process. However, This endeavor is costly, and considering I am a graduate student with over 100K in student loan debt, I could really use some help.
The convention is July 24-28th.
Costs have been quoted to me as high as the following:
Flight: $700
Hotel: $350/night for 5 nights = $1750
Food and incedentals: 500
Total: $2950
Politics have long been a passion of mine. Particulary issues such as civil rights, seperation of church and state, income inequality, and of course, the environment.
In my relatively short life I have traveled the globe as a humanitarian, biologist, and educator. I have seen first hand the environmental destruction and abject poverty that result from unrestrained crony capitalism and greed. Many may be tempted to assume that this is merely a developing world problem, but that assumption would be false. Our global influence and political power provide us with a unique responsibility to lead in respect to these issues and sadly, our efforts have been lacking. That is precisely why we need to elect dignified candidates like senator Sanders that are willing to say enough is enough. Not everything has a pricetag. Please help send me to Philadelphia. I promise to be an informed voice of strong conviction that will stand for progressive values until the end.
Thank you.
