The deepest sadness a child can endure is the loss of a Loving Mother. Hope Sevidal Elferdink was shot and passed away as her two children slept early Sunday morning June 5th. At approximately 1:00am while enjoying a sleepover with friends the unthinkable happened.
As the sun rose that brisk Michigan morning Emma and Noah searched their home but did not find Mommy or Daddy. Noah was the first to witness the cold stillness found outside as he discovered his mother Hope and father Mark lying at the bottom of their porch leading to the backyard. Overwhelmed with the image and deepest sadness a child should never burden, Noah bravely called 911 with Emma at his side.
The Calhoun County Sheriff confirmed the tragic incident was a murder-suicide at the hands of the father.
This fund is for those who have asked to offer support for Emma and Noah. Your gift will initially support Emma and Noah with therapy. Any remaining funds will be used to continue Hope’s dream that Emma continue her passion with math, music, track, volleyball and basketball. Noah’s support will help him with his love or art, soccer, football and computers. We hope it will also contribute to their college educations.
Hope was a practicing nurse following in the footsteps of her mother Dorothea a retired RN and father Pedro who is a retired MD. Mark was a Deputy Sheriff serving the public of Calhoun county for 18 years. The Elferdink and Sevidal families ask that we use this tragic event to remember one thing. God asks that when we forgive and remember in dying, we are born to Eternal Life.
