My Name is William Carter and I am a delegate to the Republican National Convention... According to some the youngest in history, at 18 years old. I began this endeavor simply wanting to get involved in the political process at a county republican meeting, soon after I found myself as a delegate to the RNC Convention in Cleveland.
As a young man of 18 the honor of being the youngest delegate in the nation has been overshadowed by the overwhelming cost. I must fly to Cleveland,round trip. As capitalism would naturally dictate, seeing as over 50,000 people are going to attend the convention... The airfare for a one way trip is over 1000$. I am required to stay at a hotel charging 249.99 dollars a night for 6 nights. I furthermore have to pay for all food and expenses that may come along with this endeavor.
I have been dedicated to my community and want to be apart of something bigger than myself. I also want to attend this without putting a financial burden on my family who has paid for my schooling at Benedictine Military School and are now paying for my college career at Mercer. Furthermore I am a counselor at the YMCA of West Chatham working everyday with our nations youth. Unfortunately, the price tag of this endeavor would mean that I would have to be working my current job 5xs over in order to break even on the expenses.
I cannot highlight enough how important this convention is to me, the people of the state, and the United States of America. We will be choosing the Republican Nominee for President of the United States, who may have the chance to pick the next 5 Supreme Court Justices. I would like to ask that you offer me your financial support as I endeavor ever onward into the unknown!
