Emergency Medical Help for Cooper
Last night she and Cooper were victims of a vicious attack in her home by her boyfriend . He tied them up and periodically beat her and her dog thru out the night. Unfortunately for Cooper, he was left in near death condition.
These two are like family to me. Cooper is like a child to her. I can't imagine what it was like for my friend and her dog to be stuck in that room with each other and not be able to do anything for the other.
The man has been arrested , but Cooper sustained multiple internal injuries. He is in critical but stable condition. They will be watching him closely overnight and for the next few days. The vet hospital gave her a rough estimate of $4-6000, depending on how tonight goes.
The Carver ACO, The Animal Rescue of Boston, and the vet hospital all suggested to find a way to raise funds and as quickly as possible given Coopers critical condition. Please help us get Cooper back to his healthy self! Any amount would be greatly appreciated!
Coopers creatine levels continue to rise despite aggresive medical treatment. He is in acute kidney failure, borderline chronic kidney failure. In both cases Dialysis is being discussed to save his life. The costs for this can reach anywhere from $5,000 to 10,000. We are reaching out to as many organizations as possible to hopefully gather more funds. Please continue donate, every little helps! Also, please continue to share this page so we can get the word out!
Thank you everyone for your prayers, well wishes, and generosity! Coopers creatine levels did not rise yesterday, however the level they are at is still extremely dangerous. The vets are trying everything they can, but if his level stays at this level or starts rising again he is going to end up needing dialysis. As of yesterday his vet bill is $6800, they gave us a new estimate which is for another 3 days at the hospital. His care is averaging $1500 a day. The new estimate is for the hospital stay&care is now up to $11,250. If dialysis is needed that is anywhere from $5000-$10,000. Every dollar helps and if you cant donate PLEASE share this page. Please keep praying for Cooper. He is loved by so many and we all want him to pull thru this.
Cooper is doing awesome! After a few weeks of subcutaneous fluids, his kidney values remained stable while slowly weaning him down. Last Tuesday (19th) was the last time he had it done, and on Friday evening they were still within the normal range. We have a follow up appointment later on this week to make sure they are still within the normal range. Depending on those results, we will figure out how often & for how long he should be monitored.
Cooper is back to his happy go lucky self, and I am so ecstatic that he doesn't seem to have any fear of people, men included, which was one of my biggest worries. It puts a smile on my face seeing him run around the yard with his sister Callie, and being bossy over his "chest scratches" from me & almost anyone he encounters. Seeing him this was now really helps me get thru when I'm struggling with this nightmare. I was terrified I would never see him like this again, and he is recovering so well that it reminds me in time I will recover just as well!
I would first like to thank everyone for their well wishes, prayers, and generosity. I am overwhelmed with gratitude. As of yesterday afternoon Cooper is still in critical but stable condition. He is alert and moving around a little. The biggest concern is still his kidneys. Right now they can't be sure that this is only an acute kidney injury or if this could end up being an injury that could affect him for the rest of his life. He will be at the hospital at least for a few more days. I will update again when I have the opportunity.
I also have been the victim of domestic abuse...but never before have I seen the horror of what was done to this poor defenseless animal, Please follow the link I am sharing with you, as they help with animals that are caught in domestic violence cases. Hugs...Please keep us posted on Coopers condition. https://redrover.org/domestic-violence-and-pets
I'm glad the increased fluids helped Cooper. My first rescue dog had kidney disease (age related) and I did some research on diets that could help. Here's an article I wrote about it - it helped him so much and reversed the kidney disease. We did the beef and rice one, but we cooked the beef and the eggs in the recipe. Thought this diet might help Cooper and be extra gentle on his healing kidneys. XO http://themogulmom.com/2012/03/saving-simba-on-faith-intuition-and-nutrition/
Valerie, I'm praying for you both. I hope the person that did this will never be allowed into your life ever again. You have a voice but Cooper does not and he depends on you to keep him safe. People who react with this kind of violence will never change. Please don't ever give him another chance to hurt either one of you again!
So glad he's continuing to recover well! Not surprised that he had some fluctuation in his kidney function values, sort of expected that to happen at least once...that they normalized when he had his fluids increased again is good news, though. :) Thanks for posting pictures of him, you and Callie, too--the Tough Trio! You all look great, and how cute that you and Cooper both have freckles!
I am so excited and relieved to hear Cooper is home. How wonderful!!!!! Praying for you and Cooper to be blessed with healing, safety, and peace. So sorry for all you have been through. I don't know you guys personally but was so moved when I saw your story on FB. So pleased to hear you have him home with you again!!
