Unexpected Disasters

Hi!

We are Catherine and Bobby W. Baker.  We've been married since 2001 and have been living in our home in South Carolina where we create artwork and live with our cat and two dogs.

We're trying to raise money for our high insurance deductible and get our air conditioning back up and running. We appreciate any help you can give no matter how small. Even prayers and good wishes are most welcome.

On May 29, 2016 a beautiful Hickory tree in our backyard that provided shade for our dogs and our home unexpectedly fell on our house. It damaged the roof and our ceiling in several areas.

Luckily we are covered under our homeowners insurance, but our high deductible is one of the reasons for this campaign.

The other reason for this campaign is that we have been trying to save money for fixing our contaminated duct work caused by rodent infestation as a result of South Carolina's huge flood in October. Unfortunately our insurance will not cover that damage. We have no way to heat or cool our home which is unbearable in the summer with South Carolina's humidity.

My wife had just started a new floral designing job in June of 2015 to supplement her painting hobby. But the business could not pay her and the business eventually went bankrupt.

She has had a hard time finding stable work that would provide steady income. I have been working as a graphic and web designer for the past four years, but these last two years have been very lean. Sometimes lean enough that we're not sure we'll be able to pay our bills each month. So I too, have been looking for regular full or even part-time work, but to no avail. It may be that our age is partly to blame. I'm 58 and this year my lovely wife Catherine will be 52. I often get told that I'm overqualified.

Catherine was encouraged by these circumstances to start painting fine art more seriously again to help with our expenses. It's been a little slow in coming. You can see her work here:

I've also tried to supplement our income by creating crafts that we can sell at Farmers Markets and Craft Fairs. You can see some of my work here:

Luckily we were both hired to teach people how to paint at Paint Nite Columbia where we instruct people how to do acrylic paintings at various bars and retaurants throughout town. It's a really fun event and we can make a little extra here and there to supplement our income.

The opportunity to ask for help in this way means a lot to us, because we both trust processes, have faith that all will be well, and believe that the Universe moves in mysterious ways.

We've been doing fairly well at maintaining our living expenses, but the lack of air conditioning and inability to afford our deductible is infringing on our sanity.

We are so grateful to have this opportunity to ask for your help. Whatever you can afford will be more than enough and we thank you!
