Girls Farm Camp 2016

We are are women + friends who live in Providence and farm together in Seekonk, MA. This summer we are putting on a one-week camp with 10 teen girls from Providence, and we need your help to make it happen.
Every day for a week, campers will gather at our city garden and take the bus to Seekonk, where we will spend the day doing farm work, preparing lunch with vegetables from the farm, and learning from each other and from the earth. Besides participating in all the activities of a working farm (harvesting, planting, weeding, caring for our pigs and chickens), campers will have the opportunity to learn other skills that interest them such as herbal medicine and simple building. On the last night we will camp out in the campsite that the campers spent the week designing and planting.
We will have conversations about justice and care. We will water the seed of the radical nurturer in each of us. Art will happen. We will make s'mores and watch the Perseids.
We have already selected the ten awesome young women who will participate in this summer's camp, and we are so excited to spend the week with them. Along with the three farmers (Laura, Sarah, and Tess), we have three friends who will round out the team, so the campers will leave with a whole crew of great new mentors.
The bulk of the money we raise will be spent on stipends for the youth and mentors— it is important to us to make this camp accessible to young people who need to have summer jobs, and to value the time of our mentors. The rest of the money will go to food for the week (farm work results in a powerful appetite!), transporation, insurance, and supplies for the group creative project.
If you have some cash, we'll happily plant it in the fertile soil of the future.
