Boone History Center Urgent Relief!

Donation protected

Boone, Iowa is home to many historic places, lovely Victorian homes, and a very rich and interesting past.

One of our treasured historic structures lost the battle of time and weathering today when the cornice fell from the Boone History Center. Formerly a Masonic Temple built in 1907, it holds within its walls artifacts from prehistory to present times. The building, with small town support, provides a contribution to the educational system as well as the culture of Boone County. An investment that cannot be measured. It also houses a wonderful event space in its basement which is a valuable asset to our community.

Fundraising efforts are on-going and steps were being taken to repair the facade although other urgent repairs were needed, including major work on the elevator. "We have been working closely with the USDA and other funding partners.  Luckily this happened on a Sunday...the one day that we are not currently open to the public. Thankfully, there were no injuries during the collapse."

The Executive Director, Mara MacKay, and the Board of Directors, thanks everyone for any help that can be provided to return our building, inside and out, to original and useable condition.
