Samantha has to be the most courageous and driven person I have ever met. Of the many obstacles she has faced in her life, I have never heard negativity or complaints but instead a simple drive to overcome them while continuing to enjoy and appreciate every bit of life. As I watched her recover from the double lung transplant she received 5 years ago, I saw her thrive on the second chance she got to live life to the fullest.
Samantha has recently received a whole new set of obstacles. She is embracing them with the same optimistic drive and tough as nails attitude that she and Mason always do! Here is a recent update from her:
"My lungs are not getting better as we hoped and may be transitioning into a state of chronic rejection, which has no real treatment except eventually being re-listed for a second lung transplant and until then, suppressing my immune system. Because I have parathyroid cancer, the need to remove it has become top priority. The team is afraid if we don't get it out asap they are concerned the cancer may spread since I have no immune system to fight it off. If the cancer should spread, the potential for me to be re-listed decreases dramatically to the point where it may not be a reality. This now becomes my/our worst fear.
So with that said, I am scheduled to get the cancer removed on June 9!! This date is also when I was scheduled to fly out to Cleveland to compete in the Transplant Games. I feel blessed to have been able to train for this and get my body in pretty good shape going into surgery. The universe had other plans for me I guess. "
Her perspective and positive attitude about everything inspires me daily.
The funds raised in this campaign will support her while she is receiving treatments and fighting to get well again!
