Patrick's Second Chance At Life!!!!
Donation protected
Lots of people know my brother Patrick and for those of you that don't here's a little background story.
Patrick is the father of one son and three daughters and he has four handsome grandsons.
Patrick has one brother and is very lucky to have four wonderful sisters myself included . He is an uncle to five nephews and two nieces.
This is my brother Patrick's story and his will to live, we joke around and call him the cat with nine lives.
Patrick had his first heart attack at 41 years of age. Our family was surprised since Patrick was so young and active, we all pulled together and did whatever we could to support him in which ever way he needed.
Years pass on and Patrick notices he's having trouble breathing and dealing with day-to-day chores along with having to deal with work. Patrick was also retaining a lot of fluid around his heart . After a variety of tests he found out he needed bypass surgery. In November 2012 Patrick underwent quadruple bypass surgery and had a pacemaker put in as well, the doctors and nurses could not believe how sick he really was since he was still so young.
My brother is an amazing person he never gave up I don't know how he remained so upbeat and positive when it looked like the cards were stacked against him. Patrick had been in and out of the hospital from 2012 on. He joked around saying too bad he couldn't get frequent flyer miles for all the times he was in the hospital.
Patrick ended up back in the hospital once again in 2015. Our family was so worried about him as the stays in the hospital got closer and closer together. He ended up in the hospital for his diabetes, bleeding ulscers that had to be surgically removed and a blood infection.
He ended up with a sore on his leg that got pretty infected the doctors wanted to amputate his lower leg but his son would not sign the papers in protest and thank God he didn't because with a little time and antibiotics it healed perfectly. We knew it was going to be a rough ride but had no clue what was coming.
In April 2016 Patrick was told he needed a heart transplant but wasn't sure if he would qualify since he was very sick. They found him a bed in Toronto General Hospital only to give it to someone else . We were all devastated this was the first time I had seen Patrick almost give up but he didn't.
The doctors then proceeded to tell Patrick that there was nothing more they could do for him and told him to start looking for hospice care he was devastated and scared for the first time. He wasn't ready to leave his children and grandchildren his family is his life He's been through so much and was only57 years old.
He had been through so much and did what was asked of him only to be told he had two weeks to a month to live . Patrick's ex-wife Debbie and the mother to his three children refused to listen she fought for Patrick and their children and it worked. From one day to the next he was transferred to University Hospital in London Ontario. They did various tests to see if Patrick qualified for the transplant list which thankfully he did.
We are firm believers in what's meant to be. Well from going on the transplant list to being told on the same day they had a donor heart and the transplant will take place May 7, 2016. Lucky 7 as we say since that was the day he was blessed with a new heart. He is doing extremely well since being given the gift of life. One families tragedy was a blessing to ours especially Patrick.
He he has been given a second chance and plans on making the most out of it not taking anyone or anything for granted since life is so precious.
Patrick has a long road ahead of him and wants to cherish every minute of it.
I created this page for my brother because he's been strong long enough. I don't know where or how he kept so positive through all this and very rarely complained. He just wasn't willing to give up.
Since having the heart transplant he will have to stay in London for 3 months having to pay rent for his home in Hamilton, Ontario and rent for the temporary one in London. Any donation big or small will help with his expenses like rent, groceries, bills and medical bills that aren't covered by his benefits for the next 3 months in London.
Please have a heart and and help my brother out so that the only worry he will have is getting better to be able to do what he loves most, spend time with his family.
Thank you all for all the prayers and well wishes. Patrick appreciates every single one.
Thank you for any donation given every little bit helps.
