Evelyn...my sweet Evelyn.

This beautiful gift from God is my daughter, my very medically fragile, yet so full of life child.

Miss Evelyn has had a rough start to life.  Through her fighting for her life, and my perseverance and motherly instinct, she has been diagnosed with Arnold Chiari Malformation 1, Tethered Spinal Cord, and Neurogenic Bladder.

Wow! Lots of big words, eh?  So!  Arnold Chiari Malformation 1 is something she was born with.  Her brain is too big for her skull, so it seeped down into her spinal colomn, cutting off proper cerebrospinal fluid flow.  Because of this, sweet Evelyn would get sick in her sleep (when she slept), and was not able to wake up during her vomiting, resulting in many episodes of aspiration.  Miss Evelyn has focal seizures.  Her eyes do not function correctly.  Etc.  She had brain decompression surgery in February of this year, which included removing a large portion of her occipital skull, removing all of her cerebellar brain tonsils, a large portion of her top vertebrae, and replacing her skull with a pig heart.  Miss Evelyn is doing much better after that surgery, but it is important to understand that this surgery is NOT a cure for Chiari, and she will probably have to have many more brain procedures/surgeries throughout her life.

Now, onto her Tethered Spinal Cord...she has a very large cyst at the base of her spine, which is pushing her spinal cord against her spinal column, so it cannot move freely like ours does.  She may become spontaneously
paralyzed. This causes Evelyn to fall A LOT.  This also has caused irreversible nerve damage to her bladder.

She has surgery on June 3rd to untether her spinal cord to try to keep the nerve damage from getting worse and potentially moving to other organs in her little, innocent body.

So...to keep Evelyn's organs from shutting down, I have to give her catheters every 4-5 hours.  This is very traumatic for her, and I find myself crying most times I have to do this to her.  Because of her intensive medical needs, I have had to place my career on hold to care for her.  She needs my care 24/7...and we have lost half of our family's income.

I ask of you to please donate what you feel in your heart is necessary.  I DO NOT ask for money.  This is not a need I am easily coming to you with, but this is a sincere ask.  To make it through her upcoming surgery and to keep the rent paid, we need help.  Evelyn needs this help.  Please do NOT feel obligated to give, as we ALL have families and bills to take care of.  My family will be forever grateful for any help we do get, and please, please know that the gifts given to my family WILL be paid forward and forever appreciated!!!
