Grooming to the Rescue

Marion Bryer, loves animals! She is the owner of the Pooch Parlor in Homewood. What you may not know is that Marion also volunteers at South Suburban Humane Society (“SSHS”) in Chicago Heights, Illinois. SSHS also brings rescued dogs to her shop in Homewood for grooming to give the dogs a better chance of adoption. Marion does this on a strictly volunteer basis and has done so for years. BUT NOW, Marion has a dream. She would like to establish a grooming salon at SSHS so even more animals can be groomed prior to going to their forever homes. Marion’s goal is to make low cost grooming available at the shelter and to train volunteers to help her with the hundreds of dogs that come through the shelter.
Like all good altruistic goals, this takes money and in-kind donations. We hope to raise $7,000+ to cover the expense of all the supplies needed to bathe and groom all the different breeds of dogs – large and small – that come through the doors at SSHS weekly. The list includes: grooming table (preferably hydraulic for bigger dogs); clippers, scissors, hot water heater, etc. This also includes the biggest expenses: the plumber and electrician.
