Father With Lewy Body Dementia

My husband and I have raised ten children. He has worked hard his entire life. He never complained he never felt sorry for himself and together we were able to give our children a good childhood. He worked sometimes 84 hours a week just to keep food on the table. The kids never went without and always had what they needed. My husband is now 54 years old and our youngest child is 19. John has always been the smartest man I have ever known. The past 4 years he started having memory and motor skills issues. He has been unable to work and has difficulty in with writing and reading. We saw many doctors had many tests done and after 4 years we received a crushing diagnosis. My husband has dementia with Lewy bodies. It was explained to us that this disease is eating his brain and that there is no cure, he is terminally ill. They told us he could live 5-7 years from the onset of major symptoms which he has had for approximately two years, yet he will only be able to function independently for the next 1-2 years depending on various factors. They said it advances quicker when occurring in younger patients like John. The doctor told us to do the things he has wanted to do for the next year and to keep him happy while he is still himself. I am raising money here is to enable the man who has devoted his life to his children a chance to do some of the things he has always wanted to do but couldn't because we thought we had more time. He wants to visit family to say goodbye, go back to California and see his old home town and various other goals. I have urged him to make a bucket list and my goal is to give the man who worked his entire life for others a chance to do the things he spent over 20 years dreaming of doing. I have been supporting him my daughter who has bipolar and her two children so I have no saving to help him achieve his list. I am asking if you could please help him enjoy the rest of his life while he can. Help me help make the time he has left special and happy.
