A Community Helps Allegra Beat Cancer
I cannot thank you enough
for all of the love and support throughout this process. I can only hope to return the favor once this
has passed and know that I have everything I need to move forward the best way
possible. Things are moving fast and
life is full of twists turn and opportunities to make changes that will have a benefit
in the long term.
As some of you know, after an initial exploratory procedure it was discovered that I have Clear Cell Cancer which can be aggressive and I will be undergoing treatment that may involve chemotherapy and radiation depending on the pathology results from the second procedure I just underwent. I am going to need help in whatever capacity possible, not just financially but moral support. There are the obvious medical expenses and living costs associated with my path to recovery. Feel free to help in which ever way you can and are able to. Even if it's just a hug, a phone call or a smile.
I am so blessed to have you all in my life in whatever capacity. This is a journey unlike any other I have faced and knowing I have such loving support makes it all the easier. Please also use this as a message to really love yourselves and respect the sacred temple that is your body to be of service in this world. I am open to the possibility of being happy, whole and healthy and dream of a beautiful future!
Much love and light,
I realize it has been 8 months now since I was diagnosed, and only perhaps now do I say I am a survivor of cancer. Making the decision to do chemotherapy was one of the toughest choices in my life and I am thank...See More
. I face the fears of losing my appetite, being sick when I want to be well and I choose to move forward with grace and strength. The friends I have made at the Cancer Support Community support group inspire me to have an open heart and be gentle with myself when I am not feeling well.
I am blessed to have enough strength to work part-time again at 24th Street Theatre. I thank all of the staff, Board and community embracing me as I move forward and heal. I am excited to now be the Community Engager focused on building with local residents, community organizations and outreach. My hope is that all work places can be of support to those who need time to heal and I can only imagine how this would be if I worked at Bank of America!!
Without the support of a community I have no idea where I would be....may we all be blessed to have that as we all heal. This weekend I had the unique opportunity to attend a meditation retreat at Deer Park Monastery in Escondido. It was so beautiful to make time to be still, connect with nature and reflect on the beauty of life no matter what is in front of you. It is also a powerful reminder that it is ok to sit still with pain knowing that it is temporary. Thank you to all who created that safe space for people to gather. I look forward to seeing you all soon as the Los Angeles summer brings offerings of music, warm nights and laughter.
Please send me your mailing address to receive a small token of my gratitude.
Breathe...you are alive!
May this message find you all in good spirits and health. I cannot even begin to thank all of you for the tremendous outpouring of love and support during this challenge. This fundraising campaign has gone beyond my wildest dreams and reinforces the power of a united community. It makes me think about all the people who have not reached out for help for whatever reason; and the capacity we have to share love and resources without limiting fears and beliefs getting in the way. Sometimes I feel guilty asking for help. I also know that doing this on my own would take away from being able to focus on the healing process. This is what mutual aid is all about and what we can strive for in all areas of our lives.
Two weeks ago I went to my follow up appointment and had my staples removed which is definitely one less level of discomfort. The pathology report did indicate that the tumor removed was cancerous and they are recommending chemo over a 4 1/2 month period as treatment with radiation afterwards. Of course, I am experiencing mixed feelings about this and am exploring what other options may exist. I am seeking a long-term investment in my health and am building a foundation for years to come. All the juicing and whole foods-type eating are a life time commitment and I am hoping that this can inspire us to take better care of ourselves. I am planning on developing a resource guide to help those that may be facing a similar situation. There is no way I would be recovering at the pace I am going without all the healthy lifestyle changes I have implemented.
I cannot thank you all for the caring and love that has been shared. The cards, visits, rides, messages, texts, hugs, and shared meals are helping keep my spirits high. One thing I can say is that I have so much faith in what I have chosen to do by merging holistic and Western medicine. I am eternally grateful to those who have helped take care of me when I got home and appreciate all those who have braved Koreatown parking and high gas prices to come visit. This time for healing has truly been food for the soul and I am making efforts to be more mindful about taking time to slow down and enjoy the beauty that life has to offer. Last week my beautiful grandmother was here to help me, I am so blessed to have her in my life and she has fought breast cancer twice. When I told her about my diagnosis in October she responded immediately with, "we are survivors." So many of the decisions I have had to make were under a pressurized timeline and my team has helped me do a phenomenal amount of research to acquire knowledge about healing, fundraising, developing a support network for rides, meals and so on. I am looking forward to using my experience to help empower others.
Love and light,
Güido (on behalf of Allegra's care team)
Allegra, you are an inspiration to me! Conexiones, amor y amistad. Te mando un abraso!!!
When we set-up the page we just chose a random figure to start, this goal amount is not one that is really set as there will be a lot of expenses associated in Allegra's healing process. The page was set up with the intention of allowing her to focus on healing rather than worry about the financial burdens. Please continue to donate, any amount helps. Thank you so much.
I encourage folks to please continue spreading the word for Allegra fundraiser! She is the one who set the bar at $6000, because she is humble but in actuality if she wants to be able to take on some holistic macrobiotic diet centered recovery regiment it is going to take at least $20,000. Friends, you have blown Allegra's mind with your generosity and kind words! Please let's keep growing her fund so that she can heal with lost of light and peace. The burden of bills and debt is one that no one battling illness should have to face. When I visited her at the hospital she was a total warrior, she had a great outlook and was ready to come home! Tlazocamati, Thank you, Gracias, Namaste~ M
