Shannon's Rally Against Cancer

Donation protected
Shannon Goggins lives in Lowell, MI with her husband, Chris, and children, Ryan and Halle. In 2010, Shannon was diagnosed with cervical cancer. She underwent surgery and was believed to be in remission. Then in late 2013, tests revealed that there was a tumor on her ovary. She had surgery again in early 2014, and the tumor and ovary were removed. The tumor was pre-cancerous. While Shannon was recovering from that second surgery, her dad, Ken, received the devastating news that he had ALS - Lou Gehrig's Disease. Ken's health declined rapidly, and Shannon took a leave of absence from her job as an occupational therapist to help care for him. After a long year of fighting this awful, debilitating disease, Ken passed away in March, 2015.

Throughout this ordeal, Shannon continued to see her oncologist to monitor her own health. In July 2015, she underwent yet another surgery to remove an ovarian torsion. The family hoped this would finally resolve the situation, but by December 2015, Shannon was experiencing escalating abdominal pain. Her doctor ran tests and, not being too concerned with the results, decided on a 'wait and see' approach. Shannon's pain continued to increase and by Spring 2016, she decided to seek a second opinion. The second oncologist she met with reviewed her medical records and chose to retest her previous biopsies. Early this month, that oncologist met with Shannon and Chris and informed them that she has Stage 4 cancer, and it has metastasized throughout her abdomen.

On May 17, 2016, Shannon endured a grueling, 11 hour surgery. Her spleen, gall bladder, and omentum were removed, and cancerous growths were also removed in other areas of her abdomen. Unfortunately, the cancer on one of Shannon's lymph nodes could not be surgically removed, and she will begin traditional chemotherapy and radiation treatment next month to address that.

As Chris and Shannon's friends, we are humbly asking for your help. Shannon will be off work indefinitely, and Chris will need to take time off as well to help care for Shannon and their children. The loss of income along with escalating medical bills will result in significant financial challenges. If you have the means to offer a gift to the Goggins family, please bless them with your generosity. Keep Shannon and her family in your heart and in your prayers, please. We are grateful for your kindness and support of our friends.
